This is no nice, sedate snowfall
with large wet flakes falling politely
straight down in order, no not this.

The iced winter sky has sprung a leak.
Myriad tiny dry feathers float effortlessly
while the mischievous wind chases them,
scurrying in giddy kitten circles,
frisking the trees in their sugar frosting.
Even the barn roof tosses its white lace skirt
high into the air when the wind catches hold.

Ospreys, wild with thrill, dance with the swirls
in graceful glides, their long, strong wings
swooping against the clouds; calling the moves
to each other, their loud voices echoing across the valley.
And the feathers float heedlessly in all directions
at once, within the yawning circle of slate green
pines and firs embracing the fields

This is no nice, sedate snowfall
with large wet flakes falling politely
straight down in order, no not this.

What a cool poem. I loved those
"Ospreys, wild with thrill, dance with the swirls
in graceful glides, their long, strong wings
swooping against the clouds; calling the moves..."
Delightful imagery. Please keep writing the wilds.

There are so many fantastic lines/images in this, Rosemary. Thanks so much for sharing.

As I began reading this, I thought, I need to post my Time Warp.  Well as I read, I thought, wow, it's nothing like this at all, except it's about a snowstorm. Nevertheless, I'll post it. It has a completely different style and not nearly the fresh way of showing images, but, oh, well. We can't all be RJG
