She leafed thru the curled pages
of the poetry journal, pausing longer
on some entries than others.

Time seemed to slow in the room,
while waiting for her to reflect.
She lingered there, in her moment of
retrospect. Even the shadows falling
across the room seemed to be waiting
for her confess.

"You only write with sad ink now.
You hold the rose, but only touch the thorn,
you look to the stars, but you dont make a wish ...
you stand in the sun, but only feel the burn."

"Burn? Not any more. Most days ...
I don't think I'll ever be warm again," came the reply.

"You've stopped believing in me," she whispered.

"No, not in you -- in me, I don't believe in me."

"Do you still believe in the stars? she queried.

"Stars are like wishes, endless and always just out of reach."

"You know I understand, right?" she said,
resuming her place in the journal.

"Yes, I know and I'm sorry for the melancholy."

     "Don't be sorry," she said.
"If you must be, then be warm."

     "And where will you be?"

"I'll be here, right where I've always been,
counting the stars for you.  You just have to reach out for me ...
and then believe."

     "Yes ... I know."

She lit a candle as the shadows
consumed the room. The light danced
in ambered inspiration on the walls ...
and for a while, both touched the warm.

"Stars are like wishes, endless and always just out of reach."

I wrote a poem awhile back about wishing on a starless sky.  My words were meant to ease an ache within myself, knowing this wish would never come true.
But then the most outrageous thing happened.  I got my wish.
All that to say...even the stars aren't really out of reach.  And sometimes, you dream and don't really even know it.
(That makes no sense but oh well, I'm saying it anyway.  lol)
Good to see you up and writing this late night/early morning, JM.  This was a most extraordinary poem!

OMIGOSH! This is breathtaking, Lady. You tell a story well. I get the feeling that since she's reflecting and reading a poetry journal then she's having a conversation with that part of herself living in the journal. Or maybe she is speaking with her journal. I get so much out of this. Its simply wonderous as all your work is. Great to see you posting.

You've captured conversational style poetry and added a subtle rhyme that delights... I'm convinced you really do think in rhyme. *S* This is beautiful, JM... I particularly like these lines - what a wake-up call to anyone who's been going through the motions instead of really living.

It does move slow doesnt it? sometimes I swear time stops and could it? I have been in this room, waiting, wondering...confessing all my doubts...asking all my whys....the shadows fell and continue to do so....but I am beginning to see that light which makes me warm....again....In awe of this....and you knew I would be...love you sweet butterfly....continue to let the wings fly....the stars will do the guiding...

Dear Lady..I am late..that is my name lately. but it's never too late to read you.
This struck me:

"Time seemed to slow in the room"

That to me is "muse entrance evidence"..such as plasma is for believers of things that go bump in the night?

Yeah, freaky huh! LOL..but to me all things slow down and I feel asleep on the outside but so much more in tune on the inside...and then it is there..the words..the ones I can't ever find when I am simply wishing for them. That is when..I see things written in replies such as:

!!!!!!!!!!!  IWIHWT  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I listened there as well as you do.

Awesome you! Awesome deep write....
Warm hugs poetess.

Regina

And this was certainly no exception!

This is a beautiful, poignant, introspective poem. I understood too well the part of only writing with sad ink. Oh, the whole poem is wonderful! I just love it! So much feeling - so much sadness - but not hopelessness. Strongly worded and well written.

Time seemed to slow in the room,
while waiting for her to reflect.
She lingered there, in her moment of
retrospect. Even the shadows falling
across the room seemed to be waiting
for her confess.

"Stars are like wishes, endless and always just out of reach."

"You know I understand, right?" she said,
resuming her place in the journal.

She lit a candle as the shadows
consumed the room. The light danced
in ambered inspiration on the walls ...
and for a while, both touched the warm.
----------

Oh, you are so captivatingly brilliant... Wonderful poetry flows from you, Janet, my friend... and the idea so inspriational that even I came up with some thing here... hope you like it...

Regards to you, Janet,
Sudhir

Lingering around like a smile
searching the soul for wishes while
she gazes at the glancing stars -
shimmering divinities that
keep staring back at you
as if double-daring to
make a wish

Stars appear out of reach
like wishes hiding
deep in the heart
of the wishing well

But then,
though at times,
all good things seem far away,
things do turn around
just like changing seasons.

All that needs to be done
is light a candle and notice -
the flickering of the flame
in searching for
oxygen in the air
while in constant belief that
life is supported by
the very elements
that create
a sustained warmth

be warm

There’s something about those lines that really caught me. And I love the conversational way you wrote this piece. Not sure how I missed this the first time round, but I’m glad I caught it now…better late than never!! It’s so rare we get to read your poetry and I’d hate to have missed it. It really is fantastic writing, but I’ve come to expect nothing less when I see your name.

Donna...thank you so much girlie...I hope things will settle down for you soon, they always say things happen for a reason, and we just have to try to accept it even when we dont understand it. Its a hard lesson to learn. Your friend and you are still in thought and prayer.
