Conversations With My Mother a rather different type of duet Sleep softly darling daughter hear the touch of me As I cradle you new-born so soft and tenderly Sleep sweetly baby mine love illumes your face Bathing me in wonder I'm amazed by your grace Dream gently beloved baby hear my softest plea Sleep softly darling daughter listen now to me Mum where is my maths book? If you put it back in your bag you wouldn’t have lost it Mum, I’m talking to you Can’t we have one breakfast time in peace? I know you’ve put it away somewhere tidily Well, someone has too Mum where are my game’s things I need them now I do If you wanted them washed you should have said Why are all mums’ exactly like you? It’s a parent thing, wait till you have children Mum listen don’t fuss me I’m going to be late yet again If you got out of bed earlier?!! Can’t you give me a lift? Okay I’ll walk I’m not a ruddy taxi service missy Rest darling daughter snuggle into pleasant sleep I’ll protect you darling while you’re counting sheep Sleep softly my sweetheart tomorrow will be good I’ll kiss away your trouble, as a mummy should Dream quietly my darling listen close to me Sleep softly darling daughter dreams come silently Mum I’ll be back later yes I promise to call you Have you got money for a cab fare? I know you worry because you always do Why? She asks why do I worry? BECAUSE I’m a mother Mum he’s nice don’t fuss everything will be cool You are not going out dressed like that Stop panicking mum I’m not some silly fool You didn’t tell me he rode a motorbike!! Mum just listen to yourself I’m not going very far So suddenly you’re leaving home, why what’s wrong? You told me mum to go and find my star You are going to be all right aren’t you? Slumber my darling daughter now don’t cry again Into every life comes sunshine mixed with rain Drift into moonlight sweet daughter of mine There’s another out there you’ll realise this in time Close your eyes darling while I watch over you Sleep softly darling tomorrow’s dreams come true Mum you don’t understand try and listen to me One minute you’re here then you’re there, why what’s the matter? I have to do this please don’t you see I’ll get your shopping and come home on Sunday for dinner Mum you taught me to spread my wings and fly I love you darling daughter don’t fly too high or far But you know I’ll be back maybe by and by Have you seen the state of that flat? Give me a kiss goodbye Mum you are the one who steered my path to me I swear the water in your taps has legs, take care You know I have to go I have to fly free I don’t care how old you are you’re still my babe Be at peace darling daughter rest you weary head Slumber quietly dearest sweetly in your bed Sleep softly beloved daughter don’t fear the night I’ll watch over you silently until the dawning’s light Rest your eyes darling slip into dreaming time Sleep softly darling everything will turn out fine Marsha & Krissy This was a strange marriage of two different styles, I'm sorry if it confuses you, but you said try so this is my try. And while thy willing soul transpiers |

Krissy~ Did you once live at my house ???? Sounds sooooo like the many conversations I had with mine~ (I remember the day I was attempting to be stern with her over some frivolous matter and noticed she was suddenly taller than I was ... Of course I didn't let that flap me ... I said, "Sit down ... I'm talking to you !") MamaMarsha~ Memory-makers here ~ Mine and yours~ Duet~ You both done GOOD~ It sounds so natural~ Love to you both~ *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

"Where are you going, my little one, little one....turn around and you're one, turn around you're grown, turn around you're a young wife with babes of your own..." Krissy there was a song out, oh, many many moons ago..quite like this...and as I read this beautiful piece by you and your mum, it played over and over in my head,...At the moment I cannot recall all of the words, but do remember the feelings, and this beautiful and remarkable poem gave me those same feelings. Some of the words from the song are at the top of this reply. Perhaps someone can give me the name of this song so I can listen to it once more. Krissy and Marsha....this is so breathtakingly beautiful it left me in tears...remembering the years of my own daughter growing up and hearing some of these same lines you two have written about. The time passes so quickly...always stay close to one another. Thank you both so much! ~Hugs to you both, Nancy~ ~Time has cast a spell on you, |

I knew before I opened that I would be smiling through tears....and what a smile...and what tears! Oh, but I heard my daughter and me through this one...just not so much of an accent, mind you! LOL... And you said it wouldn't/couldn't be done... HA! I'm going to run out of gushy adjectives.... |

I think this is terrific!! Two different sides to the same relationship, written from both sides. You both used your own styles and your own thoughts and created a wonderful duet. This is a keeper... |

I am still trying to see through my tears. I can relate.. and I will soon be having the same conversations with my son... he is just 11 now and is just starting to taste his independance.... I know where you are coming from Marsha, I can remember the day he was born just like it was yesterday and I would like to keep him there, safe and sound, warm and innocent, but it just doesn't happen that way. Our children grow up. and Krissy, I can still look back and see where you are coming from too... parents seem to worry too much and seem to expect so much from you as you grow older. Never giving privilage and responsibility as equally as you would expect. I used to drive a motorcycle... so I know the freedom you feel being on one... but I would shrink in fear if my son were ever to want to own one. I would live in fear of every minute he was on it. I am ranting... your poem touched a nerve both of you, well done... Krissy I hope to be reading more of yours soon as well as your mother's. Love, Light and Peace Sherry Cherish the good memories past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow. |

I loved it! Contrary to Ron, I thought your position was juxta fine Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. |

Thank you everyone of you, the response to this is a great surprise to both mum and I. Shall I tell you about this duet of ours. Firstly you do need to know that mum and I love each other, so although we play tag around the forum and even have the odd tussle over possession of a certain note we do so with only fun and love. And I’ve got the note back as it happens and I’m keeping it When we were writing this duet it was for both of us very hard work, I can’t write like mum and she cannot write like me. As I’m sure is apparent to the meanest intelligence. Finally after mum had tried to get me to rhyme my lines and I had tried to get her not to rhyme hers we came to a compromise. She wrote her little poem and I wrote mine separately, we had the theme as the steps of life and the result was this. I like it in parts, and mum does too. But when we married the two poems together mum actually winced. She did the fancy bit with the code and then covered her eyes saying she couldn’t watch me cut up her work. As some of you have said it works and it’s a lot better than either of us expected, but I don’t know if mum will want to do another one until the shock has died down for her. If anyone else wants to duet with me let me know I want to learn and I know I’ll learn a lot. But my poems will be few and far between, so if you were expecting me to write a lot then I’m sorry. I’ll wait until I’m inspired, and I’m sure that will happen Again thank you one and all for responding, I’ll now return you to the regular entertainment available here. Big smile Love and warm stuff As always Krissy And while thy willing soul transpiers |

Marsha/Krissy - Your collaboration is awesome. Really good. Now Krissy you listen to your mother now. And Marsha, let up on her a little, she needs room to fly.lol Krissy, I have a question. When your mother speaks to you, do her sentences rhyme? Dave |

Krissy & Mum, Gotta say I really love duets...I do. And Krissy I'm convinced if it weren't for you your Mum would be old by now! Nothing confusing about this one. I loved it. |
