Some of you probably know that this section of PIP occasionally hosts an impromptu "Open mic" night, where poets come in at a specified time, ICQ each other like mad, and post poems into Poetic Haven.

The first one went off wonderfully. The second one less so. The third, no one showed up at all. All of these were on Friday nights. And I have been guilty of having to postpone or cancel open mic nights because Fridays, quite frankly, are not the best day.

So here's a question for everyone here:

What *would* be a good day for everyone?

For me, Thursday would be the most ideal, if we held an open mic once each month, or bi-weekly.

Let's get a consensus on this so we can plan another open mic, which always turns out fun (when people show up).

Here are some of the rules:

*A list of 25 phrases will be posted the evening of the open mic. If you have any phrases you'd like to see become poems, feel free to e-mail them to me, and I'll try to incorporate some of them.

*Ten minutes before the open mic is to start, PdV and I will compile the list and post it in this forum.

*Once the phrases are posted, there will be a two-hour window to turn the phrases into poems and post them into Poetic Haven. Just go down the list, writing the ones you want, skipping the ones you don't. On open mic nights, the "three posts minimum" rule is suspended in Sanctuary. Feel free to ICQ each other and chat -- have a good time.

If you're interested, please consider this the sign-up sheet. Leave a reply to this post with what day and time you think is best, and we'll try and figure out which one is best for everyone.

I hope there's still interest in this. It's a great chance to meet with poets you might not otherwise be exposed to.

I think it's great for anyone who is having a bout of writer's block (ME!)....I look forward to doing it..

in the meantime could someone please post some challenge phrases??????

I don't have ICQ either, Jenn. We could always just do MSN or something. Hmm, except Sharon, aren't you on yahoo? Yahoo messenger then? Sheesh, I'm so confused!

Saturday night would work for me.
I can't think of anything, off the top
of my head, that would get in the way of it.
I won't be around all day tomorrow, but I'll
be back in the late afternoon/early evening,
so I'll come in here as soon as I get on and
see if this is happening or not.

Hey... umm, has this past? If not, I'm game! My days are sorta kinda full sometimes, though. Thursdays are good (sometimes). Friday and Saturday after 11 is good too.

I still wanna play. It sounded like it would
have been just me and Sharon had we done it
last Saturday night, and I didn't really think
it would be much fun with only 2 people.
BUT...it looks like we have more interest now. Cool!

Good, good. I'm glad to see interest improving.

Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays I talk to Lori. Wednesdays I job search (for Calgary). Tuesdays and Sundays I hang with my roommate. Saturdays I'm usually out with a friend or doing a poetry reading.

My schedule is slammed. But I still want these things to happen. Maybe I can pop in from time to time on Wednesday nights?

Actually, if Wednesday is best for the rest of you,
then go ahead without me. Wednesday is pretty
much the only night that will consistently not work for me.
I work with a church scouting group, and our
meetings are every Wednesday.
Sorry to confuse the issue.
