You know, all it takes is a bunch of fiery political issues to make you really appreciate the Sanctuary at piptalk. I do believe we've never had that problem here. Isn't it wonderful? I just wanted to say that I love this part of piptalk and believe that it's very important. I've never seen any issues of cliques, bad manners, distasteful posts... and I almost feel sorry for Martie, bless her heart, for moderating the forum. It must be kind of like the Maytag Repairman's job. It's just a shame that people don't use it as much.  |

It's odd isn't it that no one comes here. This forum was put here for a respite from the daily round of other forum grumbles. That's why it's not in the main forum screen. Though I'd like to see more senior members post here, I don't want EVERYONE to..does that make sense? Keep it simple and quiet for a while.  |

(chuckling) martie..the uniform looks good on you.. but do people stare when you deliver flowers and get confused? I could see them wondering if you were there to fix the fridge and what was with the flowers anyway? as for this place... it's great..as long as people use it..otherwise..it is just like the archives.. you can go read... but you end up talking to yourself.. |

I talk to myself all the time, there are fewer arguments that way! Seems like lately everyone is a little 'testy' around here so I talk to those I know won't bite my head off! Namely - ME! LOL I think most poets want the high number of replies so they post in the main forums. This place gets so few readers! So I compare the main forums to Barnes and Noble. And the Sanctuary is a small rare book store! |

(chuckling) I have enjoyed many an afternoon in old book stores browsing..touching and just enjoying the books surrounding me... I do that now and then in the archives as well..and in here.. but for the forum to hold people, it has to be in some way interactive... for exapmle. I have a thought or something I would like to hear other's thoughts on..and I post it here.. in a day or so..I may get a reply.. and the way most people's minds work it seems they have gone on to something else by then, or come to conclusion of their own..and while interested in the feedback, no longer find the urgency... or simply feel like they were ignored...or didn't matter.. a conversation with others is what forums are about. Here the conversations would hopefully be less controversial... but still a conversation. as for talking to myself..I do it all the time..and I write for myself.. not worried or interested in the response of others..or simply understanding others may not be interested in all I have to say... unfortunately... I am my own worst enemy..so having a conversation with myself often leads to testy... or to arguments inside.... so I don't garner the same benefits you mention from doing it.. NOW.. I'm not being testy..nor am I being critical... just saying that if we all love this place so much..or enjoy it so much.. why is it we don't support it and use it more than we do? It's easy to lament the lack of use or to praise the place as a sanctuary... but it is hard for me to understand the difference betwen posting in here and some of the other slower forums... tell me what makes this a sanctuary and what makes it different than say the pub? what precepts are there that make them unique? the name? the regulars who visit? what is it that a poetic sanctuary should be? How does this fit the bill and how does this fail? (smiling).. can you tell I struggle with things? I blame no one and am not intending to be critical.. and certainly not attacking anyone.. just trying to understand why and what makes this place not only deserve the name, but also why it is that people seem almost content with how it is..though they lament the lack of interaction and use.. |

It's hard to explain why I like it here. I don't expect replies on my poetry. I don't post them here for replies. I just want to share. If one person reads my work here that's fine. I think this place is intended as a nook..a getaway from the main forums. That's why it's so hard to find (not many make their way here). It's for Senior Members only (though if someone were to post here without the requisite number of posts, I wouldn't kick them out - it's not that kind of place). I think Main Forums are Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Sanctuary is Coeur d'Alene, Idaho or Berlin, New Hampshire or Scooba, Mississippi. |

You know.. it doesn't really matter why you like being here does it.. you just do..and that is enough... fundemental differences in thought process..I do nto care if anyone reads some thngs I write either..but fail to want to share..and so usually do not post those. the ones I do post..while I enjoy people reading them and enjoy knowing they might be enjoyed.. in truth would be written if no one read them... sorry to have been on such a soap box Mz Devine... I think it time I wandered on.. be well... |

Peace and quiet are good sometimes...it's nice to come sit in here and have a cup of tea, then look at the poems that don't move too fast for you to see them. If lots of people used the sanctuary, it would become the pub... Maybe people appreciate it but just use it more quietly than the pub-like places. Like people behave differently in a church then in a mall. I think it's worse to have a thousand "wow!" or "loved it" replies than to have none at all, so I post in sanctuary, and I get none at all.  Well, personally I know that I like to dig around in Sanctuary and pull up old things I may have missed. It's a very special place to put something, and because most people don't even know about Sanctuary, you better believe that you're showing your work to a very small audience. A few people might reply, and if they don't, I'm sure it's no big deal. I'm not the only person who fishes out zero-reply poems in there and responds to them a few years down the road. Ideally I'd like to think that Sanctuary is a place for people who are less casually interested than Open, and less critically interested than Critical Analysis, but more a group of people who are interested in developing some kind of understanding of the poetry... where people who truly consider their writing to be an art, can feel accepted and understood. Although, I don't write the rules, I just dream. |

LOL I enjoyed reading this, and want you to knowI love YOU too, for being so incredibly wonderfully HUMAN. Hey, was that some mush or what? LOL, and for the record, I read here often even tho I don't take time to reply, just as I've done lately with all the other forums. *sigh* (moving out of state next week) |

You know, there was something very peaceful about reading this thread tonight.... talking of old book stores... when I lived in WA state in the san juan islands, there was a little second hand book store....God I loved it. I think I left my heart there and need to go back :-( |

Personally I have never liked crowds... I'm the kind of person that avoids malls between mid-Nov and New Years. I moved to OKC because you can have the convenience of city living without the god-awful crowds of places like SF, NYC, LA etc etc. Add to this the fact that I only find time to drop in once in awhile (my wife has been battling cancer for the last 2 years, a battle which we have sadly been informed she will eventually lose) and sanctuary suits me much better than the more active forums. I am trying to find more time to be here and at least read as the poetry takes my mind off less pleasant matters for awhile. Perhaps when my anxiety level eases down below the critical level my muse will return. |
