...in my boxers...

Hello.

I've recently decided to stop worrying and debating what to do with my life, and to just do something. To both act and think at the same time. I chose to focus on where my talent, love, and interest lies, that being writing. If I get a different leading while in the Marines and in college, so be it.

What I was curious is who here writes anything beyond or outside the scope of poetry? Such as short storys, novels, journlistic articles, etc etc. Scripts, plays, etc etc.

Let me know, if you don't mind. And how you do it, why you it, so on and so forth.

The few. The proud. The Marines.

I get a lot of satisfaction writing technical instructions and procedures at work. Just to be able to put words together is good for me.

Before this springs out of my mind... PDV, I challenge you to take some of your instructions and write a long, allegorical poem based on them.

Please?  I'll love you forever.

I might have penned one or two decidingly non-poetic rambles over the years. From 1975 to about 1985, I "almost" managed to pay the bills by free-lancing for maybe a score of national magazines, ranging from Parent's to Compute. Ran a small newspaper in San Diego for a year in 1979. It was, in fact, the need for a word processor in 1980 that propelled me into the computer world.

When I retired and moved to Michigan six years ago, I started work on a novel. About a former Marine, strangely enough. A year into the book, at about 170,000 words, I got a little distracted. If you want to be a serious writer, never ever start a web site!

There are a good many very serious writers of fiction in the forums. Sadly, that art form requires more time and intensity to promote than we've ever quite managed to sustain.

I write short stories, long stories (I have about three in the works lol), I journal like a mad woman, I used to write articles for 100 Mile's now nonexistant online newspaper, I LOVE writing essays (yeah go figure eh?) for school.
I dunno, I'm just constantly writing. I've always got three notebooks in my backpack (which I take everywhere), and a gazillion pens (in case the ink runs out).
I'm just so incredibly thankful that I'm going into newspaper or magazine journalism when I'm done university; I honestly cannot wait to be able to write for my living. I mean, how awesome is that? To be able to do something that I absolutely love? How many people can honestly say that they love their jobs? As long as I have a pen in my hands or a keyboard in front of me, I'm as happy as a lark. No flipping burgers at McD's for this Canadian *grin* sorry I went off on such a tangent, I got started and just didn't remember how to stop lol.

... Even though you're gone ...

I occasionally venture into the world of prose... just little observations and stories not much more than that
