Why not watch:

Trading Spaces

Forsythe Saga on PBS

CSI

Law and Order (I prefer the SVU version on Friday night)

Dead Zone - it's better than I expected

Monk - I watch it once in a while..it's cute

I guess it's time we got to know each other. This is the perfect opportunity. First, I don't drink (I do drink but not alcohol). Water, juice, diet coke...those things are drinkable..

Isn't Campbell's soup a childhood memory? Chicken noodle and grilled cheese sandwiches. The lunch of 10 year olds...gosh I miss that.

Ms Devine....
Then grab some OJ and have a sit. Will Tomatoe Soup and grilled cheese do for you?
Seems I already ate the chicken noodle...

I do drink...and yes I know it isn't good for you if done in excess... (chuckling)
but being somewhat obsessive when I start something, I do sometimes get carried away and good sense does not prevail....

Childhood lunches.... I remember several that were a slice or two of cheese and a couple of cold biscuits, carefully wrapped in wax paper and carried around in my pocket.

Now, I'll have to ask you to excuse me please... I have to go act like I have good sense and do my weekly report for the CEO..

Not that he'll read it or understand what it is I am saying, he just likes to know I am thinking of him

Oh...and since this IS television related, I can add that the minute I saw your new pic, I thought, "she looks like an Ivory Snow Girl".

That alone tells my age.

But for those who don't know, the Ivory Snow Girls were the predecessors to the Breck Girl--the Breck Girls were known for gorgeous hair, and Ivory Snow girls were renowned for their beautiful skin.

And you do have lovely skin.

And I don't mind you hangin' around, Dawn--just don't stand next to me in pics.

me so jealous

takes all kinds..

Fridge is empty too...

well, good thing I figured it would be..

.....click....pshhhhh....

a cold one.. ah...

I see Ed and Bri have been by... nice to know the river and the fools haven't gotten either of them...

Think I'll sit here a while.. and enjoy the silence... funny how dark a room can be in broad daylight....

waited for the first light
to shine across the floor
showing me the way again
to make it to the door
far to many lonely nights
staring at the walls
listening to the silence
and hoping for your call

tell me is there anyway
to go back in time
and chase the dusty devils
of wind across the plains?

Can you reach inside
and put the fear aside
or must it always be the
grey horse that we ride?

waited for the first light
to shine across the floor
showing me the way again
to make it to the door

Coffee this AM... strong, hot, and tinged with a bit of bitter.... got to put my head down again..and get cranking..so party on ...

Ed..I saw Bri prancing around wearing some sparkling thing on his head... figured the early summer heat must have gotten to him...or he was tryng out for some broadway production.. then I realized he must have been elected the Ms. Cabbage Queen..for the local parade. I do have to say he was cuter than last years winner, but she was after all 84...

ladies... struggling over the remote is not allowed. lol... it's too much like real life.

now as for putting on something more comfortable.. dress as you please... we're casual here... double entendres and evil grins are par for the course... the occaisional practical joke to the sleeping may be expected and the fridge is to be kept well stocked at all times.

if things get too serious..we'll have to send you to the corner for a little quiet time out... the corner store that is..to restock the fridge...

now... turn the tv to the history channel and let's learn something... or to the discovery channel... science and history always did fascinate me.

Dawn,
add extra batteries to the list on the fridge door... we wouldn't want you to be deprived and start a fight over the ones for the remote..

K.. twitching your nose huh? twitch more than that in here and you too will need to add extra batteries to the list on the fridge door.. lol...

now... where was I??? oh yeah....

cradled in the grey of passing clouds
the thunder in its passing
rumbled protests as if in need
of bottle filled or change of garb
too wet this day for comfort
still it soaks the ground...
and I in stare
begin to watch a count of crops
one splashed into two
three added onto slick black asphalt
until in my daze of making patterns fit
I realized there was not enough
numbers
or days to work it out
the sounds or smells
  the feel of wet throughout
and the cradle rocked
to the crumble of broken sighs
matching lonely in the mind
one more day
              one more passing time
let it storm..
let it rain...
it is after all just
                  natural refrains

ahem...

it's festival time...I know that
because the clouds have
fathered children
and they pretend to be high flying
            kites of fog
ruffling tree feathers
and skipping with humidity ~
they make the birds sing...

I wanted to write of clouds
but instead I wrote of those
who sit alone, content
to be noting notes
or perusing pages,
content to be alone
content to hear the voices
of poets

content to come back
with batteries

in case something twitches.

It's festival time.

Hmm... ah there is a cold one left....

Ssspppfft.....
  glugg gulp....

now.. did Bri leave that metal thingy around he's been wearing? oh there it is... now, If I just solder this wire to the back of it and hook the other end up to the antenna lead on this old radio, toss the shiny thing out the window into the tree ( hoping it will catch on a limb)..I should be able to get pretty good reception..

oach!..lol.. I forgot that once you solder something you shouldn't grab it right away..

glug gulp.. mmmm..
nothing like a cold one...

now where was I? oh yeah.. this wire to the back terminal..ok
now to the window...
slllllhhht...bump...

ok.. now..that tree limb over there looks high enough and it looks like I have enough wire.. here goes..

whir.. whir. whir whir..
clink

hmmm... well, ok I wasn't aiming for that.. but hey..it works.. let's see if the radio gets anything now..

click...
  hmmmmmmmmm....

"Ladies and gentlement join us now for the smooth sounds of 58.9 AM and the Big Band Review featuring the music of Duke Ellington, benny Goodman, and ALL your favorites...

OK... this will work.. (chuckling) a rainy afternoon, low clouds and old songs....

Between the starlight memories and static
I sat in watch of clouds
low grey pieces of heaven
laden as they were with rain
that played counterpoint to short silences
and old swing

Long ago
when I was in love
there were afternoons such as this
with tea and you when we
made our own damp impressions
to the singing swing of clarinet
or the puling piano rythms from day
when white cliffs of Dover inspired
a generation to grasp
        not to become extinct
t have only the moment now
for tomorrow or tonight
it could end...

My eyes now want to close
and my head tilt back to remember my own urgencies to survive... to remember once
once upon a time..

Yep, to remember...

Once upon a time
When a lad may have looked
down from this very window
to see a friend urging haste

For there was new spring grass
that needed footprints
and bugs that need discovering

Or a young lass
gazing into the lawn below
at a pebble thrower, just urging

For there was a new spring dress
that needed handprints
and buttons that need discovering
Ahh, youth

Now, to restock the fridge

Here's the brats...
we've enough beer to cover 'em...

sizzle

         time a upon once...

oh wait, let me get away from the mirror - air hair, you know...Kansas winds do that...

let me kick my shoes off...
oh that feels MUCH better....

now...

memories...
of that first love,
him, with the chocolate eyes,
and long lashes, the lazy smile
that said "it's all about me..."
with the wanna be bad boy image,
and the too soft hands
that foretold a shiftless life
and a drifting nature...

I saw all of him, but he
could not see any of me, for the curves
weren't then, and the blush
overrode innocence,

but the heavens tilted

first love.. yeah she was a mousy blonde with folks who worked a lot.. a quick mind and an empty hole in her from something she never talked about.. a fear of her father..and a tremble when touched that cried wild... with a modest blush for a while... then it was different..it was comfortable..and easy... but always scared..
someone who could look at me and make me want to be better and more than I was.. could touch me and make me feel like I was safe..and who could make my blood race..pound like there was an end of the world coming..and now was the only time...

nah.. don't remember much about her...

a quick story maybe?

My first love,was unusual looking.

In that he resembled Barbra Streisand.

and he was proud of it.

first red flag.

then?

We were strolling through the quarter one night and there was a mercedes parked by the curb, painted chocolate brown.

He squealed, "oooooh! it matches my jacket."

second red flag.

The third?

Well, let's just say he ate a better banana than I did.

But? Shrug.

We all lived unhappily ever after anyhow.

sheesh.

My first love was six feet tall. From Kentucky, with the accent and everything. He was strong, too. Could bench press almost twice my weight, which is kind of scary.

Erm.. yeah. That relationship ended somewhere around the time he threw a knife at me. But such is luck.

I date short, scrawny guys now.

Someone pass me something (nonalcoholic) to drink? I'm seventeen and thirsty.

First love...?

Izzat the first girl that broke your heart?

Or, the first girl that let you talk her into it?

(Or, perhaps, the first girl you threw over your shoulder and carried back to your cave?)

Each, I think, would qualify.

And HEY! I didn't think of marshmallows! We don't have any marshmallows.

(does anyone know exactly what's IN a marsmallow...or how they're made?...I mean, has anyone ever seen a recipe for marshmallows?)

Cotton has a nice hand
But I am fond of the way it drapes
Over curves

Try it on
Its simple cut and form
Is free for summer air
To wash across the bare
Barely concealed

I’ll wait here
And you can model for me
The colors…
      Choose one
Or two
   But you must know
They make me stare
So do not be alarmed
If I want to feel the hand
Or check the drape

Later
We’ll sit in the shade
And watch the days last light struggle
To the clutch of stars
Leaving scratches
Passioned on blue that fades
To darker hues

And I’ll show you how
Both days and buttons
Can be undone.

ok...well listen, I grabbed some things from my fridge that ya need for a cookout!

-marshmallows (I grabbed everything to make Smores later)

-some  BBQ chicken.  It was just marinating in my fridge w/ nowhere to go...

-sliced potatoes mixed w/ onions and peppers

-3 40 oz. bottles of Miller

was just sittin' around...enjoy :-)

btw...anyone mind if I go take a leap in the lake?

oh...first love.  Well, I'll tell of my first TRUE love.  He was 6'5 and skinny as a nail.  Standing next to me he looked pretty funny.  Friends hooked us up.  He was kind, gentle, romantic and earnest.  He was everything I could ever want in a man and was even great with kids. He only had one fault - he loved drugs more than he loved me.

maybe a jump in a lake will wash my face...

I can smell
    the smoke
of your exhale
from
     a thousand
           miles
         away
I know
the caress
of your hair

             and the
electric charge
built up

   in the metal of Mystery
that adorned
your skin

     I read letters not words
letters
like individuals
made of the atoms of ink

I watch you write the words to me
like I watch
sunrise

             our eyes filled
       with the humours
  of angelic children

I have habits numerous

and one, just one, is this:

when it is I'm lost in thought

I curl my hair

through fingertips

and draw the silk of it--myself--

across my lips before I smile

a thousand miles away no more

now received

upon your door--

Home between your fingers kissed--

oh that it can be like this

I'd have dreamed you had I known

that such a thing could be.

Slow dancing,
a'shuffling feet,
soothing the soul,
and time is replete,
with
slow dancing,
a'swishing of skirt,
hushing sounds
that hearts won't
be hurt,
with slow dancing,
now lean into me,

my baby...

my baby...

~*~

sing it again,
but sing it to me,
this slow dancing,
it seems that to me,
this slow dancing,
is healing my heart,
now hold me real close,
and we'll surely start
with slow dancing
in nighttime's sweet air,
slow dancing,
with baby so fair...

my baby...

my baby...

Scccrrreeeeeeekkkkkkk......

( door needs oil again.... reminder to self to fix that...)

Hmmm... looks like things have ben quiet... slow dance music on the box, no passed out bodies laying around or piles of empties overflowing the trash...

ah.. what's this?

flip..rustle..

Ogden Nash... hmmmmm.....  someone's been reading...

....plop....

well.. for me.. a few moments of quiet.. so perhaps I'll scribble a bit...

5:30 and the local stop quick
is populated with us
migrants from suburbs and beyond
needing the tank of gas
the pit stop we should have made
and refills on the 44oz mega gulps
to wash down the days remains

Uniformed in our blue collar blues
or white collar logoes we stare
watching the dials spin knowing
there are no jackpots of three cherries
to spit out silver or gold
just plastic pays...
so we can again be on our way
to places called home
        bars
                churches
crowded highways

There is fatigue in the face
of the fellow next pump over
filling the large dump truck
with "Dead Broke Hauling"
painted on the side

Two ladies and gas cans
"Hunny, mow the yard."
stapled across their lips
unspoken and in braile

The old Jeep is finally full
and I wait for the small whir and grind
of a printer to make a receipt
as if magic
            to be discarded

Closing my door
I notice the shabby pickup pull in
and sweat stained workers
too many for the seats pile out

and I let the starter spin
6 tired strike to life
as the road beckons me

I wonder what its like...
not to live so much

within

I am still laughing at Cpat's comment about doing his report for the CEO on page 1.  You are right Ron, he doesn't read it - he hands it to his assistant, who makes 1/10 his salary, tells her to read and let him know should he be worried or go play golf (been there, done that!) Had the ulcers to prove it, and quit to retirement after 18 years of it!

I bought a fancy juicer just for summer!  They forget to tell you that you need to own an orchard to make this earn its keep in your kitchen.  I must have spent $10 for a couple of glasses of juice but it was so   Watermelon, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, blueberries, oranges, blackberries, a lime, and that vodka added the liquid I needed to make it just the right consistency to sing you a little summer song.

Now obviously I borrowed the tune etc. from Porky and Bess right?  So ... feel free to sing along.

Summer time
Ma t.v. is resting
Kids are jumping
Grass grown so high

Every mornin
I rise up a singin.
I spread ma wings
in the warm sand.

Sun-screened body
So nothing can harm me
with ma H20 and ma SP-30
standing ~ byeeeeeeeee

One of these days
Rain replaces ma sunshine
So hush all you whiners
Go get outsideeeee

Oh yeah, the good ole summertime!  I milk it for all its worth, besides mostly reruns on the tube.

Evening Myst....

~*~

Now there's a whole new name for her...and it fits, too....

~*~

I missed you guys so much, but the rocks and trees were talking to me, so I had to do some serious listening and yes, I baked myself somewhat but you can DO that when the air is so cool and you don't KNOW the sun is some 6,000 feet closer....

but on Pike's Peak?  Well, all I can say, is, walking in clouds is a whole lot different than just being surrounded by fog... ...

I'm not upset that we couldn't see from Pike's Peak?  I was more concerned that my granddaughter was feeling punky because of the 14,000 plus altitude...

it does give me a reason to go back and "rise and shine", however...

more later...

group hugs.....
