Better than Weeds If I wrote a love song To touch a million different souls... I wonder would it touch you too. I wonder could it make you whole. You play in last year’s garden, But mostly look on, withdrawn. As something seems to harden All the joy it used to spawn. If I were to offer you a hug, Would that at least garner a smile? Or would it be swept beneath a rug That has us living from denial. I live in last year’s garden, too, The fragrance there seldom so sweet As memory tells me it used to, When life seemed more complete. But should we never draw a pardon From the prices of past deeds... Just remember last year’s garden Is still a lot better than weeds. Michael Anderson Hope you don't mind the poetic reply, Sharon. It's been dawdling in my head since I first read "Last Year's Garden"Made me think of the Wolf and the Rose... that's twice now you drew my pen out of hiding. |

No one's replied yet??? Omg Michael, this is thoughtful and beautiful....all your poems are. Maybe with some TLC, one could bring life back to that garden, or transplant the plants that survived to a new home. Very well done!!! |
