Memorandum I

There are things that only I have seen:
So I told my love, and she was swift
To buy for me a second set of eyes
Of simpler proportion as a gift.

She bought him on a shelf for petty change,
Something I would have wasted otherwise:
We tended to him, and gave him a name
A Queen's name:  impotence with open eyes.

Queen Doreen is just like everyone:
Keep his water clean, and he will vie;
Keep his water dirty, and he's gone;
Keep his water not at all: he'll die.

What he loves is just a little food
What he likes is just a little light
He sits still when anyone's around
But he owns the universe at night---

His imagination is supreme
What he sees is old as soon as new,
He's forgotten everything he's seen
Every time he turns his head askew.

He falls asleep a moment at a time:
Then he's still and watching nothing turn
So I bought him his own little lamp
A second sun presiding.  It will burn

And flicker seldom---it will give him ease
For he's a clever taste; so apt to please.

Interesting.  I liked the form of this poem, LP, but I have never been too good with riddles.  I'll have to wait and see what people turn up over the next while....

Nice work, Brian. I think it's about a pet.. that's something you would do, weave this intricate, cryptic poem and have it be about a fish or something.

It's nice to read you again.

Oh, make me Thine forever
And should I fainting be
Lord, let me never ever
Outlive my love for Thee
