You leave me no words,
no means to respond --
dry, heaving syllables
lay on my lips.
The fire's soft spread,
a slow, heady burn,
crumbles turned phrases
to fall fast as stones.

You leave me flat, parched --
no metaphors found --
can't seem to stop
or start a new sentence.
Comma-wings flutter
in webs of clear sight.
Unused, insightless,
caught in your know.

Arms out, you speak,
sparking the sky
and flowing new embers
across fields of smoke.
Coughing and choking
on sudden, swift change,
I know you mean love
when you say nothing.

Ashes of snow
wetting the road.
We'll drive down the distance
and bear down the mountain.
Wherever we end up,
trees cracking softly.
Our subtle-filled silence
will write shelves to full.

Nightly beside you,
I'll remove a volume,
turn to the first page,
blank as the others.
To signify our breaths.
Listen ... my hand
carving smooth pictures
in words now returned.

only you could write this brilliantly about not being able to write. ( my moody muse should be so kind)
this is such a very cool poem Mike...love the personifis and analogies to writing.

You're the color of the sky reflected in each store-front window pane ...
You're the whispering and the sighing of my tires in the rain.

Ok then, don't write again,
soon.

Yum.

I've read and reread and rereread this one, Mike... and I can't think of a darn thing to say..  except that you seem to have read my mind.

Well done, Mr. Squirrel.

Anyway.. yeah.

Lovely work, squirrel guy! I certainly do miss it around here, and I miss being able to read your words.

I think I need to frame this or something...geesh...

I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU!

You sure got lost for words well here, and by the way, how's about a new poem?  Missing your work in here.

Sometimes I have to go to a bookstore, to find my own words. Nothing is magic all the time, but at times the very atmosphere of the place, so filled with words.....it's as if my own were hiding there.
