Never close enough

I stare out a dusty picture window,
at a day that now burns navy blue in the
Southern sky.

The leaves on the trees turned upward,
signing a storm on the horizon.
Darkness seems to shroud my world
both inside and outside these
four walls.

I remember sunny days,
and flowers in the garden,
thinking of you and how close
I know we once were.

That was another time,
one that has now gone the
distance within the tangle of
two lives seperated.

That part of my life has become
a mystery obscured inside the
twisted pieces of a puzzle,
that now exsist within an enigma.

Some say to forget,
others suggest moving forward.
And I have, but it seems that
I have carried you with me.

A certain smell, an inescapable sound,
all this and more, can pull you from
the webs within my mind and make
you fresh to memory once again.

My walls are my protection,
I have succesfully removed
the thought of you
from this tiny place
that I call home.

If only...
I could flip a switch
within my mind,
then finally...
you'd be gone.

Some women wait for something to change and nothing does, so they change themselves.

this is a bittersweet beauty...
a lovely wistful write of heart.
wonderful poetic use of imagery, vocabulary, poetic phrasing and personification to create the soft spoken sad expression of this.
I've been looking for that "switch" all my life...its just not in me.
well done poetess.

Thank You Janet!

I was a little worried about posting it in here, because I am trying to learn new ways of writing...(and you guys are so wonderful with words)

Thank You so much for the kind words...now, my pen in hand I will continue to "hone" this hobby of mine!

Aww, don't be afraid of posting here... we're very friendly, even if for the most part we're very serious about our writing.  It can make it seem like we're all "really good" I guess, but hey, that's why I love it here... if you're serious about your craft then this is the place to be.

You've described a very vivid situation here.  Missing somebody is never easy, and it often plays many tricks on the mind.  It's much better to capture these things in poetry than to simply let them pass you by.  Well done...
