What song you long to love again, turned to air and filler spaces. Masked by heavy dragging notes, worming memory of first. It seemed so ready to dissolve, like a liquid bed of sleep. Now it shows its bones as gold, decayed strings and marrow gone. That song once sang and stopped the spit of rain cascading to the street. Now it leaves a blank red face pursing its expectant lips. No respect is to be had or given to this dead kiss. A memory of warmth from then. It had once when, and not again. |

This one's really good... sometimes I get sick of songs I like too, and they start to lose the excitement that they had during their time. It works the other way too... some songs you don't like until you've listened to them a few times. In fact, most of the music I really like, took me a few listens to get right into it. Having stuff on my playlist can ruin some really special songs for me... so I keep them tucked away for special occasions. A few of my favourite bands are the ones I don't listen to the most often... like Sigur Ros, or Pink Floyd. I tend to pull those out if I feel the need to listen to them, but don't overplay them for fear of wearing them out. Then there's the music I used to like, that I go back to with expectant lips... heh... and think, when did I listen to this crap? Parasite Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored. |

Thank you both. And Parasite, yes, I'm the same way with music I treasure and enjoy. I try to keep listenings infrequent enough that it won't make me sick of hearing what I love. And on a different note, the poem title is inspired by another poem of mine called "Fragile acetate/She will suffer," in which the line "a playlist of past actions" is said. So it's about music, and it's about some relationships' eventual desire to fall in a heap and a shudder. Or, as Ed says, the wind and the rain. Mike |
