disbelief's uncertainty
inner rage
HE CAN'T BE GONE
pacing crucifies my feet
my umbrage
for the end of song...

a prisoner of wakefulness
I'd rattle them,
if I had chains...
I drown in my forsaken test
I try to bend
these bars of pain.

I do not know this ghost of me--
reflected eyes are hateful foe.
A puzzled me now misses piece--
I thought we both had miles to go.

I took his robe and wrapped my soul
I fingered place we found him dead.
His sheets still held the smell of him
and proof of life--the blood he bled.

I laid down on the linen shroud
in tortured wonder if he knew--
death had to trick a man this proud--
it stole him as he put on shoes.

In his bed I rested head--
his pillows cushioning my pain.
That day my dreams remained undreamt--
I simply slept the past again.

Hell, this is way better than lots of the poetry written anywhere on PIP, period.
