The Ocean Gave Her Quarters
©2002 C.G. Ward

she used to pretend
that nighttime was safety
and the stars her guide
to a peace she couldn’t find
while he fumbled
drunken desire across
the frailty of her innocence.

but the sea brims with violence
and sacred was not secret.
feet will still trip
over leaves in the dark.
so when
the ocean gave her quarters,
she buried her tears in the sand.

Which makes me realize something ... why did I title mine a rain song to the sea? Oh well, it's a bit different, 'cause pDv asked me to use something with dainty hands...

I love the final lines. And the rest of it, a'course.

She said burn ... together.

It's nice to share - kiss someone when you have a cold.

WOW! I never saw this one before, thanks to the friend who brought it back up here!
I really like the imagery and flow in this one, Christopher.
