This is for my younger son, Victor. He graduated from Columbia University Law School in May, 2000. He now works for a big law firm in NYC. to see you graduate I must admit, the years of toil were more than worth the wait today, as you join the legal profession I have only one very sad confession your loving Dad isn't here to share this moment, for which he watched you prepare but I know he's here with us today in his own unique and special way proud and happy as can be after all these years, to finally see that tyke who once sat on his knee receive his coveted law degree an adorable imp with big bright eyes you could have won the mischief prize nothing ever escaped your hands be it pictures, light switches or pots and pans and you still have that sense of fun even with that law degree, hard won wearing a cap and a gown and a hood as a Doctor of Law, you look so good knowing how hard you worked for this I plant on your cheek, a mother's proud kiss in my mind, I hear the roll of a drum as my heart fills with pride at the man you've become copyright2001 Lyra Nesius "poetry is life distilled" Gwendolyn Brooks [This message has been edited by Madame Chipmunk (01-09-2002 09:58 PM).] |

Congratulations. He picked a difficult profession. I know. I wish him well. You have every right to be very proud of him! |

Lyra - The graduation would have been better though if George W. Bush showed up, and not Al Gore.lol Hope your son is still doing well in the big city. That is silly of me, he has NY pizza on every street corner to keep him happy.lol Dave |

I feel such proudness in your words. I feel such happiness, and some sadness. But most of all I hear sincerity and care. The care of a loving Mother. Great job. Roger |

Lyra, Does this mean we can't tell Lawyer jokes? I hope he doesn't prosecute for 'poor poetry posting' or I'm in for a life sentence. Congrats and I'm sure he's just as proud of you as you are of him. BTW - Excellent poem. Roger |

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh my gosh, this is soooooo beautiful, I cried throughout this whole poem, only envisioning seeing him gain his diploma and watching your smile on your face as you cried! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, my heart cries in sadness that his dad couldn't be there for him, but I know deep down with all my heart he would definitely be there if he could and will always love him so much, as well as cried in happiness for growing and following his dreams! We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is the most beautiful poem he could ever dream of! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

Roger (poetic plumber) Thank you for your reply. There was a lot of happiness that day...but also much sadness. Victor's dad, my first husband...had died just about a year earlier. I know how much he would have loved to have been there....but I think he might have been there anyway. copyright2001 Lyra Nesius |

Thanks Roger (True Reflections) Don't worry, Victor is a friendly lawyer...and he deals mostly with real estate, not poetry...and besides, I know he would love your poems, as much as I do. copyright2001 Lyra Nesius |

Thanks much, Dave...but Victor likes Michigan pizza much better. But you are right about the dubbleya. It might have been more fun if Bush was there instead of Gore. copyright2001 Lyra Nesius "poetry is life distilled" Gwendolyn Brooks [This message has been edited by Madame Chipmunk (01-10-2002 10:36 PM).] |
