..inspired by Vonnegut and his "Bokononism" theories in the book "Cat's Cradle"

Do you think there is a reason
That our paths were meant to cross
That there is no such thing as a mistake
That there is no such thing as loss

There is no denying the pain
when someone you care for disappears
But was that meant to be as well?
...a reason for our tears?

The people who come in to your life
who break you down and hurt you
Were right on time to help you achieve...
What you are meant to do?

If this is true, what is the point...
are we are predestined for a final goal?
If we were created for a purpose...
does it imply we have no control?

Do we simply sit back and enjoy
the way life unfolds...
Knowing there is nothing you can do...
But accept what the future holds?

Imagine if we all conformed
to this (silly?) philosophy
There would be no more worrying
Imagine your life stress free...

(sigh) Oh Beth, I know just how you feel, if we just accept what the future brings always but never expect too much else, w emiss a lot of the beauty and essence of life in-between, and we must fulfill it to every extent with a loving smile and joy! (kiss on cheek) So well-said, sweet friend, we all love you so very much! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Beth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

very nice think piece ---
no stress--but i doubt there would be very much joy or adventure either

enjoyed this.

Oh, I do love to ponder, LadyLost, and you've done that well in this piece. I like to think that it's a little of both .. but I'm not sure that is feasible. If I had to choose, I like to think that we create our own destinies, and are merely guided along the way. A wonderful write ... thank you for this, much enjoyed the depth of your thoughts.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Maybe, though, all the drama, sadness, excitement, love, adventure..unexpected events... would still be there to enjoy.. we would just take comfort in knowing its all meant to be -the good and the bad- to help us achieve our ultimate purpose.

Thus, less stress in knowing that we don't have to work so hard.. that the plan is already in action and has been worked out for us...

Beth; Lovely poem and here's my thoughts...We have been given a free will by God, if we choose to align our will with His and accept His Grace into our lives, there is where we experience His wonderful Peace, because we then attain acceptance of His Divine plan as it unfolds in our lives. hugs, Mom

"Do you think there is a reason
That our paths were meant to cross
That there is no such thing as a mistake
That there is no such thing as loss"

I believe there is a reason for everyone who comes across our paths but I feel loss is very real.  I know the hurt from it far too much.

"There is no denying the pain
when someone you care for disappears
But was that meant to be as well?
                   ...a reason for our tears?"

When someone you care for disappears, you feel like a failure. At least I do.
Sometimes the reason stinks but we go on and survive.

"The people who come in to your life
who break you down and hurt you
Were right on time to help you achieve...
What you are meant to do?"

Yes, some do break you down and hurt, some don't mean to, BUT
we are meant to take the bad and make it good for us, because when they leave
all we sometimes have is ourselves...

"If this is true, what is the point...
are we are predestined for a final goal?
If we were created for a purpose...
does it imply we have no control?"

We ARE created for a purpose, I believe, but I know we cannot have complete control, only that control which gives us the results we need, we can only control so much.

"Do we simply sit back and enjoy
                   the way life unfolds...
Knowing there is nothing you can do...
But accept what the future holds?"

Absolutely not.  If we don't handle our lives, someone else will, believe me, just ask any good banker.
                   Imagine if we all conformed
                   to this (silly?) philosophy
There would be no more worrying
                   Imagine your life stress free...

impossible to imagine a life stress free...but I will try.

Sorry, I rambled a bit, but this really made me think.

I loved your thought provoking poem, Beth.
And I think that people come into your life at certain times for good reasons.
I was watching a show about New York's Mayor Guiliani who had to drop out of the senate race because he had prostate cancer.
At the time, he said that things happen to certain people at certain times for a good reason.  As it turns out, no one could have taken his place on September 11 and do the job as well as he did.  If he had gotten elected as a senator, someone else would have been New York's mayor on that day....
Our whole country may have been worse off and the course of history may have changed for the worse because of that.
Very well done, indeed!

I enjoyed this too, Beth. And I believe it, when I'm not focused on the pain of the moment, lol....I think I have one sensible week per moon, if ya know where I'm going with that...grin...
The rest is all flash and crash and burn...
hmmm...there may be a poem in that, or maybe an epitaph...lol

Anyhow, I enjoyed.

things happen for a reason. . . why is sometimes not told to us. . . and, we don't know why most of the time. . . till the end. . . and then, it all makes sense. . .

a well-spoken poem and an excellent inspiration. . .
