Anniversary Math
By Larry Chadwick

We served our time,
We did our best.
Sixteen years apiece,
And we failed the test.

But if it’s hell we pay,
Then the rights we claim.
We really bear no grudge,
And actually place no blame.

So it’s anniversary math,
Here’s how addition works.
Sixteen years the first time,
With others our past lurks.

And when we added our nine,
That makes twenty five you see.
Half way to fifty years of marriage,
Never mind it’s not all with me.

February 7, 2002

This summer it will be fifteen...I mean thirty-one!

You failed the same math classes I did. LOL, it's a good thing the numbers aren't what it's all about, or I'm in serious trouble.

Since our numbers match and since I want a fiftieth anniversary...before I die, well you get the idea. We count them since we paid hell for them. LOL Things are much better now! But thanks for noticing. Goodnite!

Larry,
I love your new math, the numbers add up to a strong and interesting poem.

But hopefully the nine are the ones to hold onto....

Keep smiling Larry, things have a strange way of working out.... even if you failed maths (So did I)

A very meaningful poem, Larry...
I know exactly how you feel.  50 years is a wonderful milestone to work towards.  My first husband died after we had been married for 34 years, and David and his ex were divorced after 16 years...so between the two of us, we have exactly 50 years of marriage...although we have only been married to each other for 3 months now.

I'm glad that things are working out so well for you too!  I loved the poem.

Lyra,
Isn't that double credit. lol Nancy and I both had former marriages of 16 years. I told her we paid hell for them we're counting them. Aaaaand I gave her an anniversary ring on our ninth anniversary and counted it as 25 years of marriage. LOL Thanks...newlywed (with a lot of experience)!
