I Slept Alone

Your arms enfold my curves no more
still, I smell your cologne
and dreams they scream upon the floor
tonight, I sleep alone
~
The heart that fed your appetite
hungers for it's freedom
starving my lips for love's true bite
no sight of fated crumb
~
I served myself on a platter
to hold your devotion
wine and dine annulled in shatter
with deceit's commotion
~
Our passion was inadequate
time groans to mock our past
for, your caress was counterfeit
affairs just never last
~
The moist of your kiss still dances
'pon feeble memory
now I embrace second chances
to rid of fool's debris
~
But, for now I go on crying
within this break of bone
and fantasies go on dying
tonight, I weep to stone

Dear Melissa, no wonder you write so well. You have the name of an artist, my favorite at that, Monette, this is wonderful. floria

Well thank you Floria   It seems that I can always count on you to read my poetry.

Also, his name was Claude Monet - he's french, I'm not.  But, thanks for the high compliment

Sleeping alone with a memory has to be one of the hadest things to face...  Just know that others are in that same place (me included).  This really touched my heart and it is a beautiful piece!!

This is tastely done with a touch of bittness and sorrow that sits well.
A most beautiful and poignant piece.

It always amazes me how you can make such beauty out of such sadness. For your poetry is always so tender, with so much feeling. Another fantastic piece from your pen of memories.

I can remember his cologne... it was drakar... and in retrospect, I can still remember how good it felt to be with him... but alas, nothing is more truthful than time.
I have healed since, and so will you I am sure of this.  Cherish the good memories and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow
But above all... be kind to yourself today.

A superb work born of ugly thoughts and pain.  Such terrible fertilizer!  Such a wonderful piece
