If you desire a wish to come true, you must first capture a butterfly.
Then whisper your wish to it. Because it is silent, it will tell no one.
Release the butterfly and it will deliver your wish… Author Unknown

I caught a butterfly this day
it fluttered in my hand
as I looked I saw
many hues of the rainbow
shining in iridescent wonder.
Its incandescence warmed my
chilled barren and stark heart
and I wondered…
how could life that is so fragile
be full of sunshine
did the butterfly not care
that its life was doomed?
It seemed not… as it fluttered
within the confines of my hand
so ready to live and fly again…
I asked myself
why could I not be like the butterfly
ready to fly at a moment's notice
ready to live for the sunshine
and forget the darkness of the prison.
I knew that if released
the butterfly would fly forth
and forget in an instant
the confines of my hand
I cry
as I think of the grublet I am
I struggle against the
cocoon of my making
I would rise up on butterfly wings
the threat of fall would not cause me to fear.

I whisper my wish and my dream
to the soft velvet of the butterfly wing
slowly open my hands
and soar with delight
as the butterfly takes off…

we are one the butterfly and I

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Keth, what a beautiful description of hope. I believe that God may caputure us, especially poets, and make a wish that we would accept and share His Love, and then  release us. After all are we poets not like His Butterflies, fluttering around in the Garden's beauty, sucking nectar from the earth, bringing joy to other floweres as we share each other's pollen for His beauty. It's fun to think so.

I believe that this is the best butterfly poem that I have ever read. You, my dear Keth are a fabulous poet.

This is lovely, I remember hearing this tale, it makes me feel
more and more like a butterfly everyday and I"m trying to fly
I really am!  Thank you for this one, I'm sure Charisma will love it!

Kethry,
So cool...I really like this. Analogies from nature to life I think are so meaningful! Thanks.

(smiles) BRAVO!!! Ooohhhhh...I love it, I love it, I love it, this reminds me of my friend too, Samantha G. Kennedy, who I always call "Little Butterfly" because she always flitters with faith and love even through all the abuse she's been through! (kiss on cheek) This is fantastic, sweet friend, Charisma is all you say abaout her and so much more, she is a very loving woman and friend, just as you are! (kiss on cheek) We all love you both so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kethry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Keth darling sister of my soul and keeper of my butterfly heart How absolutely first rate is this, if this were a film I’d present it with an Oscar. If this were a record it would win record of the year. What is the equivalent of poem of the year? Well, whatever it is this deserves it.

Absolutely Fabulous

This is one of your finest poems ever it shines like a jewel in an ocean of mediocrity. Not that your work is ever mediocre it isn’t and never has been but this is utterly outstandingly good.

Love and warm stuff
As always

Dear Kethry,
Oooh, yuck! You touched a bug! -OK, so the symbolism is good and the 'rainbow' and 'diamond' allusions are pretty, and the poem is well-written. And I admit the ending is powerful. And it's all together a wondrous poem. But. Oooh, yuck! You touched a bug! (Is my bug-phobia showing?)
