How beautiful you are
silhouetted against the steely gray sky
how graceful your windswept branches appear
as you stand so proudly in the frigid air
bearing the icy mantle of winter
on your strong shoulders

only a few weeks ago
you danced so happily
in the gentle autumn breeze
a sight to behold
piroutting in your dappled crimson finery

its so hard to believe
how very soon
you will dress yourself
in the verdant hues of spring

becoming a shady refuge from summer's sizzle
chipmunks frolicking happily at your feet
birds busily nesting in the fullness of your leafy crown

in each month's wardrobe, your beauty is fresh
your allure, irresistable

another year
a new season
softly ensconced in nature's reason

Lyra, you managed to capture, with your words, what I see out my window this evening.
The ice is so beautiful on the trees and it is hard to believe that spring and all her glory will soon be here.

*Just wish my power would stay on long enough to get dinner ready. lol*

Wonderful write for a day like today!
~Warm hugs, Nancy~

What is this with the chipmunks they pervade your poems, lol...what you're doing is ingenious though I'm a constant admirer of your season poems

Thanks for the hugs, Nancy...nice and warm on this freezing winter day.
Do you happen to live in Michigan?
It sounds like you live somewhere near me.

Thanks Martin...I really appreciate that compliment....
I write about chipmunks a lot because I am a chipmunk...a human chipmunk anyway!
But there is a whole family of chipmunks which lives under our downstairs deck...and in my old house, we had rock walls in our yard...and we had lots of chipmunk families living there...so, you might say that I identify with these little rodents.

Thanks Karen,  I thought that the picture brought the poem to life...but after looking at it again, I decided that you were right...the poem does bring that picture to life...but I think it works both ways...they bring each other to life.
Thanks for the hugs!

Noah...thanks so much for replying...
I agree...Spring cannot come soon enough, but in the meantime, I will enjoy all of the good stuff about winter.  Today, though...we have a quarter of an inch of ice on top of 8 inches of snow...and no one is going anywhere.  Its a day to enjoy the pleasures of home!

Lyra...I'm right across the border in Windsor, Ontario.  I've been hopping on and off of here all day whenever I have power!
We have 10 inches of snow and then the ice storm hit.....great fun!
Gets the creative juices flowing!

Thanks Floria...I just love trees...
Our condo is in the woods overlooking a beautiful pond...and the house where I lived before, had woods on all 4 sides.  No one could ever see it from the street, so we had to tell people to slow down when they got to the house just before it.

Nancy...you are having a worse day over on that side of the state than we are...and we usually get all the snow...but I guess we are sharing this one, except you got the brunt of it this time.  We haven't lost our electricity, but the roads are too slippery to go anywhere...so I've been here all day too!
Here's some Michigan hugs and a nice cup of hot chocolate to keep you warm!
