Backwards and Inside Out

A dream came floating through the winter skies
To settle into depths of weary eyes
Through window pane in silence slowly crept
And painted vivid pictures as I slept

I dreamed my life from old to young I’d live
The sands of hourglass an upward sieve
One more year younger with each birthday’s cheers
Descending toward my free and youthful years

I’d trek the path of time, a downward trail
So certain now of life, I could not fail
For I’d already lived each coming day
And gathered wisdom’s flowers on the way

I thought that with the knowledge I had learned
And strength of spirit I had fully earned
That life would be a joy this time around
For I already tread this very ground

The clock ticked backward to my younger years
I had forgotten all the painful tears
As phantoms of the past became alive
The dream became a nightmare in disguise

I clearly saw each situation’s truth
The wrong decisions I had made in youth
And found that in the end with wisdom won
I’d do againexactly as I’d done

Though now the challenge wasn’t quite the same
There was no profit for my soul to gain
I lost exuberance and will to fight
And found disdain and emptiness my plight

And then a happy childhood appeared
Though nothing in my little world I feared
A child’s magic moments all were gone
Already lived, no star to dream upon

There were no mysteries, no hopes, no dreams
The best of life was vacant, so it seams
At last I was awakened from the fears
Of having to relive more empty years

I’d rather live the memories than the real
Once lived, a day can never be unsealed
Reliving life in truth is but a strange
Illusion in which nothing would be changed

The seed was planted well before my birth
The pathway I would follow on this earth
My dream took leave with rapid wings of flight
Through icy window into winter’s night

Elizabeth,
this is so...backwards, turn backwards time in her flight...I love it.

Yes, I’ve often thought I would love to go back and relive my past, and change mistakes made. But, as you say, sometimes we see the past through rose coloured glasses, and our memory of it is prettier than the reality. Well penned thoughts on the subject Elizabeth.

Our past is the foundation of our future... Our future is built upon our past... and yet - the only affect we can really have rests with today...

You, Elizabeth, offer us all wondrous words to live by each and every day... Thank you...

Dear Elizabeth, I read this slow, real sloooooooow..so as to absorb every word. How true, I would not wan't to relive my life, and do the same things over again. I don't even like looking back. Looking forward is so much better..great inspiration here. floria

I read it slow too, and will read it often, it reminds me to keep looking forward and only use the past to guide the future in a better way, everything in this is such a wisdom, all of it. Thank you Liz.

(sigh) Sooooooooo beautifully touching, sweet friend, I too believe that growing up is a time of learning for ourselves so as we grow from our childhood, we can share our love openly with the spirit of the child in our hearts to sing to us all! (kiss on cheek) Soooooooo beautiful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Once lived, a day can never be unsealed...

Introspective and spiritual. I'm keeping this one close to my heart, Liz.
