this home in which my children were reared thought I'd live here forever and never move out its so full of stuff I can't live without I empty the boxes I've not seen in ages and stare at the old yellowed crumbling pages poems and stories I saved long ago I'd forgotten I had them they're so very old magazines, recipes and other good stuff throwing them out sure will be tough momentos of childhood's of children all grown report cards and sports cards trophies and toys I remember the fun of two little boys one of them gone and one of them grown oh, the sadness of doing this all on my own the clothes of a husband who died in his prime and other fond memories he left behind his skis and his boots they all now must go how sad, that he'll never again see the snow in some drawers downstairs at the end of the hall are some old children's clothes were they ever that small? souviniers of happy family vacations a box of unsent Bar Mitzvah invitations children's drawings I've not seen in years seeing them now, brings me to tears I've saved all these things for such a long time always hoping a use for them, I would find but in all of these years I never once did b'cause I couldn't find them wherever they hid and now that I've found them I must throw them out my new house is smaller without any doubt but I guess thats what moving is all about |

My response. Part 1...First, I hate moving...for this very reason. I throw nothing away. I know I'll never need it, I just may want to look at it again sometime. Why does it always seem to be bittersweet then, when I do. I understand this perfectly! |

Lyra, But you were wrong as it turned out, For all the memories were what it's about. So one last time you reflected on love, Bringing you peace as if from above. So now as you go at least you'll know why, Leaving is always the hardest good bye. I'm glad you found reminders of what they'd done, What a wonderful reflection on a husband and son. I so admire your courage dear friend. Thank you for sharing the challenge of this change. I truly enjoyed it. ![]() |

I never throw things away!! Yes, my garage is full, but I have saved little peices of everything I have done. just someday when I come across them, even for a second I will remember all of the little events of my life that I may have forgot. besides the memories in my head, It's all I have left! and it does feel great to come across those memories ever so often |

You mean you never found where all was hid? hadn't put them aside and just kept them under lid? I just think that they were your reminders of the good times you had with the boys. You would savor the moments shared with them through their countless toys. It must have been wonderful to have a mother like you Who would cherish their son's trophies, repair the odd one with glue But you would never discard them cause you had to move you knew their familiar pitter patter was now way out of the groove. life, that challenge to meet the new and discard the old Pray, keep their treasures till your remaining son grows old. hand it to him as a momento of his childhood past bid him to affectionately pass those moments on till the last |

Dear Lyra, I read this poem backwards. the second part first and then this one now, but it doesn't change the meaning at all. How difficult that is. and yet it must be done. I still cannot throw out things that really must be gotten rid of eventually. When? I guess when my back is up agains the wall like yours as you are moving. You are moving into a new future, happy with your family, and I wish you the most happiness that you can handle. You are a strong woman. I admire that, floria Floria |
