Dreamt of a minstrel, faceless to vacuous young men He sang of thrush's love for brimming waves an eye to see a voice we cannot hear he stood, solemn brows pinched with each breath making amends for hapless fate with songs of fire - in hymns of naked enchantment Those who caught the scent of his voice those who were melted with his mysterious grace took away a soul-drenched mirror brought alive Strangers in the Street who meet in song Those who had homeless spirits sifted their time weighing what was worthiest or which sundries were folly and heard him not when the clink of coin echoed hollowly from their hand, mistakenly buying pity his song grew homesick - his day unhoned until the peal of the man-lark summoned a lad with naked feet and rounded wide-eyes the minstrel cutting heart-stones with tonal silver until another, and another small child sat cross-legged before him as birds on a wire, they came he sang to them - he played till day shut drooping eyes a following morning, they found the Minstrel seven blocks over, back to brick at another faceless wall by the fifth day, they had learned his song thanking him with chin high smiles and a chorus of chiming voices an Angel Choir they each went home with joyous souls and dreamt of being a Minstrel [This message has been edited by ShadowRider (01-23-2002 01:14 AM).] |

You are deep!! And it's always so good to ponder your thoughts. I've often felt like one of those children who has come to listen to the songs, and I've also felt like a bird on a wire, strung along. |
