In loving memory of DeVante'... my reason for writing ... always. ~*~ ~Fragments Of Rhyme~ Whispered words wept promise ... over borrowed time, poetic promises kept ... epitaphs engraved in endless rhyme. Stirs of echoes taking flight ... across midnight's silver blue, night's sky draped in a veil of stars ... moonlit in emerald hues. Winter's white winds pirouette ... snow falls in silent silhouette, pen in hand wrought with regret ... muted muse unable to forget. Fragments of verse written in vain ... shadowed by sorrow's refrain, a poet cursed in aching abstain ... the words fail but the need remains. By candle light in late of night's spill ... impatiently praying for inspire's instill, *You are there, yet here with me still* ... my pen's last word, my heart's until. Janet Marie ~Whispers On The Wind~ A whispering wind blows warm across midnight's blue frost. And like so many times before, I return to this sacred place to kneel beneath my endless sky of you. Returning to a moment engraved in time, returning to the day where I witnessed forever. Here, at the jade water's edge the feathered pines, the wintered white birch, and the heathered willows weep with me. For they too, witnessed the glory of your season's change. Here, where two winters have now come and gone, the ground is still warm with your presence ... as am I. For it was here that you braided my hair with strands of sunlight. Here, where you turned my tears into crystal blue butterflies then set them free in your breeze of forgiveness. It was here that you made time stand still and carried me across the threshold of your soul allowing me to see the world through your emerald eyes. In that moment born of your insight the pearl and opaline clouds parted, and the sapphire sky opened up so that I could catch a glimpse of heaven. So I could warm in it's promise of innocence reborn. So I would no longer be afraid to let go of you when the time came. And it is here that I have come again tonight, my path illuminated by the silver iced moon. I come to touch the traces left behind, to inhale the inspiration your vision left inside of me. Sometimes, I come to scream at the stars and cry to the sky, pleading, wondering, where have my words gone? Why cant I find the rhymes to define? Why cant I still find the words to do you justice? And it is here in this place where we touched infinite, that I finally come to understand. Here, you cradled my face in your hands and the world fell away. Here, our love for one another rose above us and shined down in healing rays of warmth and promise. And in that profound moment in time we shared the same breath ... shared the same heart beat. And so it should only be here that it all becomes so clear. You, who took my breath away time after time. You, who breathed color and inspiration into my muted world. It could only be you who still touches me in places so deep that it takes my words away as you take my breath. So I wont question the silence any more. I wont scream at the stars nor cry to the sky. I'll just lace my fingers in your memory's trace and watch your seasons dance upon the water. Here, I will linger in your whispering winds. And as the stars rain down on me ... as you turn my tears into poetry, I breathe again in the quiet comfort of knowing that when I need you the most, just like tonight ... you will come and touch down again. Janet Marie ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ 2 years ago tonight ... my butterfly took merciful flight. I love you Vante' forever ... and then more. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ In the time we've known That we each are a part of one another We've lost as much as we have won And as our lives have grown We have found that it only brings us pain To hang on to the things that we have done ... Still I love ... the times you've come ~Jackson Browne~ ~*~ *thank you to Lady In White for the phrase* [This message has been edited by Janet Marie (01-01-2002 01:37 AM).] |

You write of your love in such breathtaking beauty ... I am in sheer awe at the power behind the words that flow from your heart and pen. Please know that I am thinking of you ... and DeVante tonight, and my thoughts are with you sweet poet. These were a marvelous tribute to your love, and to DeVante's inspiration to you, and ultimately ... to us, for we benefit by the beauty that shines through your cadence filled words sweet poet. JM, Of I and Why You speak of why, in sigh and I In whispers of a past goodbye Flavored with a memory tear To magnify DeVante near In sorrow and with muted wing You pray, you cry, you say, you sing. And send your prayer to heavens ear And know within yourself he’ll hear. You stir old words and make up new Light them in the soul of you. Bright the spirit of his light Light once more his phantoms sight A faith that burns as bright as yours Has no need of forever mores. You were his butterfly and lure That paints his ghost in reassure. So fly my butterfly just fly He smiles on you from up on high. |

My Sweet Sis~ I could never pick just one line...or one verse that touched my heart and soul deeper than any other, just as the life of one special butterfly brought us together so does his flight continue to draw us nearer still. You always write beyond the heavens and the horizons with him sweet Janet. I love you baby...you've captured him and his beauty as well as anyone can capture a butterfly...and we both know...butterflies are meant to be free...and cherished always. |

As everyone else has said, each line is beautiful. My favorite, which strikes me deepest and most personally, is "*You are there, yet here with me still* ... my pen's last word, my heart's until." Truly wonderful writing! It's refreshing (and exciting!) to run across quality poetry... especially when I can feel it... and the voice could be my own. :) (I intend to add you to my personal library so I'm sure not to miss MORE GOOD STUFF from you!) Keep it coming! ~Julie~ |

What an incredible poems you have penned here JM. The love and pain of loss shine through these pieces. Sure sounds like it was the most incredible love story. I have read this many, many times. You have always been a poet I dearly respect and admire but I tell you with this post, I can feel so much there I just didn't see or realize before. Your heart...is laid out for all to see. Your contribution to the forum, even as much as we both know there are times when we need to pull away, is amazing. You've given so much. Well all I can do ... is borrow from all of you ... and tell you my words wont do these replies justice ... so I will hope that my thanks truly convey the emotions behind them. Again I apologize for not being able to thank you each personally for these... I would rather spend what limited time I am going to have trying to read and reply to your work...I am profoundly behind in here ...with all the new posts that came up in 17 the same night this new forum went up ... so add profoundly overwhelmed as well. I got one reply off yesterday and got the boot. So please accept my apologies to anyone I miss and know Im trying...my computer is not. *sigh* Also accept my gratitude for these kind words and for taking the time to read this tribute..I know it was a long post. Now Im off to see how many poems this tired comp will let load before I hear that funny noise and get "da boot" thank you all... Happy New Year. peace and poetry jm |

Lost in open 17 as I was, never knowing I'd find this gem in a new place in a new year from your loving heart and pen. I so understand the pain when the heart cries out to write but pen is empty. These words show it so clearly, your talent and your need. As long as the poet and the desire remains the words will come. You know I do love seeing your writings on DeVante, it just shows that the soul never dies when a poet can give it life. Happy New Year Browneye's. At first, I was speechless.... After reading your rhyme, I thought wow this is good poetry, then I read (what seemed at first to be too long while scanning) your free verse and enjoyed that one even more. I enjoy this type of deep and sentimental poetry that delves into the darker side of reality. This reminded me of Opeth lyrics...no doubt about it, this is excellent poetry. |

I'll just lace my fingers in your memory's trace Your verse laces our hearts with something that goes beyond human nature. This is spiritual to me. Etchings of the soul. Where poetry and devotion meet. Illumination. I had to say something. I tried yesterday and couldn't. I wanted to you to know exactly how this made me feel. I hope it makes perfect sense. Sincerely, Regina |

I read this from home, but wasn't able to reply. However, I jotted down my first thoughts... for after many readings, they're still accurate. *S* You don't play fair, young lady... not at all!!! *severe scowl, complete with tapping foot* You know dern well I had every intention of being a brat and posting a simple "wow" on your next poem... Then you go and post this masterpiece and I can only offer respect... but WOW! would certainly be appropriate. *S* Your muse may too often sit silently when you long to speak... but a muse who gives such gifts upon waking certainly makes up with a vengeance for any napping done! pen in hand wrought with regret ... muted muse unable to forget. Your excellent alliteration and magnificent imagery are matched only by the ache conveyed... As for Whispers on the Wind... it's simultaneously powerful and tender, heartbreaking and hopeful. Here, where two winters have now come and gone, the ground is still warm with your presence ... as am I. ------------------------------------- as you turn my tears into poetry, I breathe again in the quiet comfort of knowing that when I need you the most, just like tonight ... you will come and touch down again. and touch our hearts... This is exquisite. [This message has been edited by suthern (01-03-2002 01:51 PM).] |

are we the sane-est people on the planet...? we're just on that wavelength, ya know.... because, damn. i know exactly what you're feeling. how DO you do that. it's like we walk the same path. *ooooo* that second stanza... "Winter's white winds pirouette ... snow falls in silent silhouette, pen in hand wrought with regret ... muted muse unable to forget. Fragments of verse written in vain ... shadowed by sorrow's refrain, a poet cursed in aching abstain ... the words fail but the need remains" if it didn't hit home so hard, i could dress it up with all kinds of pretty adjectives and praising comments. it's hard to let go of the rough edged memories when they're the biggest bit o inspiration.... thankkfully, you've got some wonderful ones mixed in... i like the style of "whispers"...havem't read much from you in this style. but it's great. it takes you talent for imagery and charges it so much more in this style. mabe it's not rhyming, maybe i been gone too long... who knows. but i like it, and i'm another understander here at the forums. Happy new year, JM. "it a long december, and there's reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last. can't remember all those times i tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass." *simplify* |
