I sit alone Beneath the sun It seems to smile on everyone How warm the sand beneath my feet The waves lap the shore as they greet So alone I feel without you here My love for you is always near Taken away before your time My heart seems lost as it begins to pine I see you as I walk these sands As I remember so fondly your warming hands The laughter from the children Bears no significance to me As I stare out into space Across the vast blue sea Laughter once used to fill my heart But now it's empty and forlorn As I curl up like a foetus As it waiting to be reborn What I'd give to see your face once more To have things back as they were before But you were needed in that heavenly place So many tears have fallen freely down my face As I watch the sun sink down so low I know the time wasn't right for you to go Time can't change, can't bring you back But my memory is strong 'tho losing track Thoughts of you will come and go Within my heart you'll be safe with me I know The gulls take flight The moon is full I turn and walk up to the hill I stand and let my mind reflect On times we had, I'll never forget Sleep peacefully and think of me You're part of the moon, the sun and the sea * * * * This is an edited version of my very first poem which was written about the effects of losing my father to cancer. This was when my writing began. It seems to take so long to accept what we feel in not right. This was and still is a wonderful poem written out of love for your father. The spirit lives on forever, thank God. Your friend, Roger |

I thought of my mother as I read this piece. The years never make the pain go away, do they? This is a lovely poem of your love for your father, and I’m sure he’s very proud of it (hey, I bet he’s showing it off to all his buddies in heaven!!) If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please? |

Hugs Sue, I lost my mother a couple of years ago, and I am loosing my father as I write. He too is battling the demons of Cancer. You are so true in saying the memories drift in and out of your mind, but you will always find in your heart a sacred place he will be, and you will find him there when ever you need him. Keep your strength and look within, you have found the gift he has given you - Expressing yourself with writing. He is your guide and will always love you too. Your never alone - Huge Hugs. The gulls take flight The moon is full I turn and walk up to the hill I stand and let my mind reflect On times we had, I'll never forget Sleep peacefully and think of me You're part of the moon, the sun and the sea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wonderful writing here Sue! Strange how a life altering experience usually is the trigger to start a person writing.....whether the experience be happy or sad..... ~Hugs for this keeper, Nancy~ ~Time has cast a spell on you, |

Suetang...Hauntingly beautiful poem. Written magnificently. Your emotions about the loss of your father turning into shimmering words. What a lovely tribute to such a warm and touching relationship. I will keep you in my prayers. ***Ivy Rose |

A beautiful testament to him Sue......it seems that the times when one is tested the hardest in life, we are granted the strength we need to greet that hardship. You were gifted with the therapy of poetry dear friend, never let it go..... |

Wow. I'm glad you were motivated to write, and that you've kept and worked on this since. It is wonderful and sad, filled with love and loss. A treasure. |
