Blueberry Time Day breaks clear in pale whisped tones Painted transiently on powder blue canvas Brush strokes fade as light intensifies Dark lake mirror absorbs and gives back hues Rasp of aluminum on quartz sand Knock of oars stowed carefully Thud of life preservers carelessly tossed Motor clamped gas line primed puff of oil smoke Engine roar, bow cuts ripple accents Island hopping begins Evergreen piles of granite splashed Feldspar pink, mica black, multi-colored quartz Lichen warts raised on dapple shadowed rock The bang of boat on stone as beachhead is made Troops armed with baskets wicker and plastic Invaders seeking blue gold amongst fern and pine Marveling at plants impossibly rooted in rock One slag pile denuded the saga continues The allies island hop taking purple prisoners Secured in plastic Quonsets Piles grow impossibly high till bow points home Stained teeth and lips held high to the wind With muffin and pancake dreams yet to fulfill © 2000 Bart Breen never try to teach a pig to sing |

Oh my gosh this poem made me think of Blueberry Hill back in New Brunswick...some great golden days of summer were spent there eating more than we picked... **big hugs** thanks for bringing back the memories Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams. |

Yes sounds like lots of fun! We are blackberry pickers here in B.C. - well those are free! Great poem, and Canuckster (must have been a Canadian once right?) Howdy from another one. ~* CARPE' DIEM *~ |
