"ENDURING HIS FREEDOM" Copyright 2001 by: MARK V SHELDON soaring high above the world spanning a current constantly changing yet always the same impatient talons ready but waiting for the right moment to strike the animals below resent him fear him hate him his keen eye always on them no rat can outrun his streak of hunger no snake can escape his iron clasp his ironic shriek of freedom curdles the monitor's blood soon to be spilled across the sands of time then washed away by desert storm stepping on egg shells his offspring don't question the source of their warm meal as long as they're fed if it's red and dead they're satisfied climbing over one another for the scraps infinite in his arial reign and rare force just as the rising sun remembers "If you don't ask: you don't get." -Steve Miller |

A nice write Mark, much enjoyed. Sincerely Rick Souring on a breeze of flight The Eagle sways its wings of might Scanning earth for movement made Seeing where its prey is laid This bird of prey is born to hunt So flies the skies each day Instinct rules its way of life And death claims sorted prey Perching on a nest up high Where clouds and nature meet the sky Nestling with its mate of one A partner true till life is done The sky’s its home and kingdom vast The breeze and day its friend Its home a feathered castle That always it will fend Grandeur is their presence Respect they have from all The Eagle is a feathered God That from the sky does fall Swiftly without effort Silent as the breeze A mass of strength with beauties touch That flies the skies with ease |

Mark, I saw a real political parallel here. Don't know if that was your intend or not. Eagles are fierce masters of the sky. I always thought it strange that it was chosen as our national symbol of freedom and justice for all, being as he is such an aggressor. I personally would have preferred a dove with an olive branch. But the eagle fiercely fights to defend its space, so perhaps the founding fathers anticipated we would always be fighting to stay on top. I guess he is the king of the sky, so can we call him 'Sky King' (after the 50's TV show hero) and get away with it???? |

I saw the exact same analogy Midnitesun, I will be curious to see if that was Marks intent. No one ever listened themselves into trouble. |

Seems all is the "Fisher King" in this day and age. Still we live, and are blessed with many things. "The pure and simple truth is rarely pure and never simple" ~Oscar Wilde~ Your words soar..as the eagle. I've missed your view..and hope you are well.. Sincerely, Regina It's all in the mind |

Political and also about people that take what they need without care for others, that is my take on it. And I remember sky king, too. A reading once showed my ex(source of most heartache) to have been an Eagle. Interesting. Sandra |

A soaring eagle.... I have always seen eagles as proud lofty creatures.....and here you have spoken of them beyond the beauty of their soaring high up in the sky looking down at the world which seems so small and minor in its existence when compared with them. I can see the political parallel as well..and I hope I didn't go too far with my views.... Above all...I missed your own soaring soul my friend. Thank you ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

(Sorry, my friends for the delay in response... I've been preparing for exams and taking care of dense beauracratic matters). Rick: I'm impressed and very appreciative of your having taken the time to reply with a poem -- that was very expressive and creative. Thank you very much. Kacy: (your Spidey-sense serves you very keenly). I haven't seen the show you mention. "Our forefathers" anticipated more than most of us will ever know... Thank you, as always, for your read, reply, and insights. The Lonely Stranger: my intent is multi-faceted and among those facets lie reflections of Truth, thought, opinion, and subjective interpretation. I commend your intuition. Thanks for the read and reply. Regina, thank you most kindly for your sentiments and thoughts. I've been catching up with scholastic issues and haven't had as much time lately as I would have liked, but I always appreciate your read and thoughts. "Fisher King", eh? I'd say more like "Brazil" or "Jacob's Ladder"... Sandra, that's an angle that works well too, for politics are supposedly made up of "people"... and this indeed could analogize relationship issues too... Thanks for stopping by & sharing. My Melody, you have not gone too far, my friend. Between academic matters and the Internet connection at work being down for three days, my time has been taken from me, but my soul will soar agian soon. I give you a soft pink rose in the meanwhile. -MVS "If you don't ask: you don't get." -Steve Miller |
