A Drop in the Bucket

A drop falls in the bucket.
Only one he says,
as he trickles all his promises
out of the trust he built
that took years.

He knew the risk of such a brew,
but it seemed as though this time,
this time one would be enough.

Galvanized and stained,
with a hole in the bottom
to drain out any corruption,
the salve was such a comfort,
for greased and medicated
he cold finally sleep.

But nothing is ever that easy
and the fix that eased him into dreams
also took his self respect.

It happens sometimes...very sad but true, and well written Martie.

God bless America, my home sweet home.

You are so very deep, Martie.  You have so many facets to explore. That's why you are so lovely.

Martie-
   Wow...much depth to this piece.
   I think...no, I KNOW I'll be reading this
   one again...and again...and again...
I do love a thinking poem..
