This was written for someone I know that is going through a hard time.

You are 16 and you want to die.
I know.
I've been there myself.
Never to feel pain again.
What a wonderful and enticing thought.
But----
Just think,
Never to see another spectacular sunrise,
Sharing the  magnificent moment
With the stillness of nature.
Never to look up,
To see the blue softness of a summer sky,
Or raise your face up
To  greet the gentle mist of a spring day.
Never to feel the first sting of frost
Signaling another winter's arrival.
Or view the miracle of color
That autumn brings.
Never to hear a child's cry
Or feel a lover's touch.
Never to grow old gracefully
With your friends at your side.
Never to sit and rest at days end
Relishing your hard-won battles.
Never to share
Your inner beauty with the world
Because you think all that is inside of you
Is worthless and dirty and unwanted.
But--
YOU ARE WRONG
You are dead wrong.
The world would be cheated.
Your space cannot be filled  with anyone else.
You are special and you are wanted.
Who can smile your smile?
Whose eyes can reflect your kindness?
Whose voice can echo your tenderness?
Whose warmth can fill a room as yours so often does?
Don't cheat us out of your uniqueness.
Don't cheat yourself.
We'll suffer the pain together.
They have taken so much of your life from you already.
Don't give them the final victory.
Your pain and your memories
Will be with you always,
But,
With God's help,
And mine
The pain will slowly fade away.
Your life can still be filled with joy.
You still have so much love to share.
You see---
They haven't taken that from you.
They can't touch what's inside.
Only you can choose to open your heart
And allow the love to flow freely within and without.
It's up to you.
You alone can make that choice
And I am right here by your side,
Waiting.
Supporting,
And most importantly
Loving.
Love yourself enough
To allow others to love you.
It can be done.
You can be happy.
It is a choice that you alone can make--
Happiness is the best revenge.
Stand strong, be proud, and love with all of your heart.
You can and will be happy.

What a beautiful poem about how precious a gift life is to each of us.  I urge you to seek help for your friend (if you haven't already) and show this poem to him/her to show him/her how important they are.  Thanks for sharing

Lisann,

Wow.  I could have used you when I was 15.  This is wonderful. Words of hope and inspiration.

Very well said...the sadness of wanting to
take a life...is the hurt it causes to all
who love that person...they live the rest
of their lives asking themselves WHY...
Why didn't they know...Why couldn't they help?

Their pain lasts their lifetime too...

Suicide is harmful to everyone and a very
selfish act...
