I wrote this this morning with the tune of "God Bless the U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood, going through my head. Hope it works. A Song of My Country from the place where Lady Liberty stands upon that eastern shore overlooking mighty waters where the great Atlantic pours along lustrous sands north to Maine’s rugged rocks then south along the seaboard past a hundred bustling docks around the Flor’da Penins’la toward the Gulf of Mexico across this mighty nation with its heart quite well in tow slipping on above Baja California here we come then north to Oregon and Washington yet very far from done east again past great glaciers prairies and Rocky Mountain high slipping past the Great Lakes heaving, well, a sigh dancing through Iowa corn and sailing Mississippi wails toward the great Grand Canyon and the western bobbing quail then lifting up to air born for graceful Hawaiian sands and on to Alaska with its caribou, moose bands this land of America may God bless it every day let us hold it in our hearts and in our minds every time we pray then with a mighty shout and our banner waving grand we’ll hold each brother, sister with a gentle, loving hand ©November 16, 2001 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
