You know how 
after I wrote that long letter explaining 
just how I felt and how much
you have changed, 
and that a continually empty mailbox 
(on my side) and a dwindling 
amount of attention 
(on your side) lent quite a bit
of evidence towards (and believe me 
I didn't point fingers or name names, I 
simply stated the way it appears) 
the fact that someone had been 
playing and someone else had been 
played, and then you wrote back 
indignant, sincerely proclaiming 
innocence-you had no idea 
what I could possibly mean- and then, 
though I had previously ended with 
goodbye, 
I still felt the need to explain
one last time 
and tell you yes, despite all, 
I was still willing to be your 
friend, and I pressed send 
and closed down for the night....
and then sure enough, at first light,
when I find
that
there
is
not
a
single
mail (with your name on it)
and...well
lets 
just say, if I were a betting woman 
(and I could find anyone 
who would be willing to give me
odds) 
this morning I'd be rich.
