Listening to every heart

Kansas

dead centered of north, east
south and west
she lies in wait

a lady in recline
bellybutton hidden by
Smoky Hills, she waits

to reveal mysteries
of curves and valleys,
hills and
flat lands, she waits

to beguile you with lush
green grasses waving
you to come soon
to her full skies skirted with
clouds, dancing,

she does not give you deserts,
but reminds you of them,
nor does she give you
mountains’ peak,
but takes you to them

she holds secreted myriad
blue pools and hide-away falls
letting wonders show
why mushroom rocks grow
or why her skies
mesmerize,

she’s a kaleidoscope,
see her twirl on
contrails that
write from east to west
and back again,
stare north,
feel Canada come
on the wind,
gaze south, smell the
gulf breeze bring
the gulls

she whispers to you
through
cottonwood memories

bloodlines course
through grasses glistening
with golden hair…

she calls the man home,
he comes
often,
standing under her blue,
over her green,
breathes her in
like liquid sun, she
makes him shiver
with a wave of breeze
and sweats him out
easily, so
in quiet awe, he holds her
in reverence
and with faith…

she’s a lady in recline,
come skirt her memories,
dust yourself with
yesterday
and
find yourself again

You know, I have relatives in Kansas, and by George, I've never been out there to see them!

YAY!!! I love Kansas, for it is so open and free and shines with corn fields and sunflowers and windmills and cottonwood trees! (smiles) Sooooooooo beautiful, I come through Kansas every time I go to Missouri to see my grandparents, it is soooooo beautiful and I love standing out and watching the sun rise and set across the countryside and sitting on the haybales letting the southernly breeze brush my face! I LOVE IT!!! (kiss on cheek) I love you, sweet Sunshine, I will visit as much as I can! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I love the imagery.  very well written, Karilea.

Do you wanna know my favorite part?  Its where you said Kansas was so flat that a kitty kicker could boot a kitten clear across a county with only two bounces.

What's that?  Are you sure?  I could have sworn I read that.  hmmmphh - Well, you could have written it, couldn't you?

Never been to Kansas...this makes me wonder why.  Really enjoyed!  (Very unique how you posted this a day before you wrote it, maybe I'll try that.  lol)

Ahh ... Kansas.  This piece hits especially close to home, seeing as I live there!  I love the way you personified it ... such a glorious, rich tapestry to paint for anyone who has never been here.  Well done  .
