Oxen straining under heavy load large hoofs digging into earth's fold Plow point turning the unbroken sod tearing out roots of prairie clod Cutting the furrows long and straight making the rows as waves on a lake Until sweeping the horizon, as far to see bared to the sky for crop to be Planted when right and praying for rain to start the grains to begin their reign From can't see to can't see, all through the day hardly a break, is the planters way A loaf of bread baked on the hearth most don't wonder, the way of the start Feed for stock that comes in a sack or hay that is thrown in manger rack Nay, not a thought of the heat and rain or the grasshoppers that would come again Nor is there a feel for the breaking of soil or what it took from the pioneers toil Feeding a nation, raising tall crops raising families, filling cemetary plots But for the men and women who made the start out of all the stuggles, they were always a part A part of the land, they came to be even in rest for all of eternity For the land grew rich with what they gave in blood, and tears to pave the way Yet joy of life held them close together when the fields were closed with inclement weather So, when you pass the fields of gold and you see a tractor rolling so bold Think of the ones that broke the land and the couples that stood hand in hand Knowing they were the first, to turn the soil dreaming a vision worthy of their toil |

It's good to write of these things, and your first stanza, aprticularly, is wonderfully written. Glenn Logan |

*sigh* I am not sure what to say. I live in the prairies so I get to see the flields of gold swaying in the breeze. I will never look at them the same way again. This is beautiful. Thank you. **hugs** Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams. |
