This was inspired when I reread a poem that was quite 'telling' on myself. I began to wonder why I was so willing to reveal the inanity, etc., of me. This is what transpired: Exposé why do I expose myself why do I vulnerable be perhaps to let someone learn a lesson via me to give them an inkling without the pain and angst, now isn’t that what others did back when I’d play my pranks? did I allow their lessons to modify my ‘do’? yes, sometimes I heeded and thought my deeds well through now as I watch and witness the youngsters in my wake I wonder why they go ahead and make their own mistakes ha-ha, hee-hee, guffaw and snick, in being honest with myself I must admit, I’ve made mine, too, the record’s on the shelf in dusty photos of days gone by relationships I’ve had their passing’s been a drain on me leaving me quite sad but to bring me some encouragement I must remind my head there’ve been lessons learned through others that have made me wise instead if a bit of what I’ve failed and what I’ve gained of fate can help another avoid the strain then let my wounds surfeit ©December 1, 2001 I have to tell you readers, it’s an amazing thing to me, I’ve never used the word ‘surfeit’ and knew not what it’d mean, so after it came to me, I checked my thesaurus, it said just what I wanted in the ending of this chorus. Though I haven’t confirmed pronunciation, I feel quite certain, friend, with e before i it’s the sound of long a, a wondrous way to end. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

It's painful to watch young folk head into the mistakes we've made. More painful for us to be frustrated in our efforts to keep them from making them by dismissing our experiences. Enjoyed "Happy people have no history" - French Proverb |

Haha... I think I heard somewhere that by making mistakes, we get experience. By repeating mistakes, we get idiots. Harsh, but well, it might be true. |

Mistakes - maybe, depends - and then there are all those "perfections" we make, cause, do, enjoy - gotta get them in to round out our overall growth because that's what it all eventually is---growth. Enjoyed the read, thoughts, perspective here VAS jwesley |

Sometimes we can learn from others who share their experiences with us but most times I have found that sharing with them after the mistakes have been made helps them put it in perspective....I have always had to learn by making mistakes and I have made some big ones. I love this poem. It is something we can all relate to. **hugs** Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams. |

Virginia, they say we learn by our mistakes. Still it is hard not to try and stop someone close to us from making the same ones. Good thought provoking write here. ~hugs, Nancy~ "A dream is a wish your heart makes..." |

It is frustrating to sit and watch someone make what we, as adults in all our wisdom, are sure is a mistake. But one thing I've learned is that the risk takers I've known in my life have not let anyone stop them from attempting to follow a difficult, arduous, or "impossible" dream. I grew up with a very long "you can't do that" list. Unfortunately, I listened to that, and sometimes stepped away from a goal or a dream because I listened to a "wise" one. And in the end, most of the time you are 'spittin in the wind' anyway. Fortunately, my teenager has already seen so many people slip into drug and alcohol stupors that she sees there is a message to be learned. I hope she still holds onto that message tenaciously 5 years from now. NOw, am I rambling, or what? LOL. Blame it on my head cold. |
