I am sending this one out again because I feel that the revisions (though subtle) make this so much better than the original version. You be the judge. The Proofs of Beauty For Kelley [I] The first I saw of beauty were your eyes That drowned me in the currents of your gaze Shone as the sun in summer’s brightest skies And burned away my heart’s resilient haze Your eyes, though bright, are filled with twilight’s wonder As night descends and fireflies alight They reach to me and tear my heart asunder Releasing my desire into flight Though dark, your eyes recall the break of morning Upon horizons fraught with tempest’s gale I will not heed the sailors’ stormy warning But launch upon these waters to prevail In dreams I sail beneath the skies Reflected in your perfect eyes [II] The second proof of beauty is your smile Whose crescent’s light usurps the waxing moon I bathe within this silver glow the while I listen to your laughter sing its tune Though seldom seen, a gift of rare delight That casts away my darkness and regret Within my dreams you shine throughout the night In dreams your smile I never may forget On waking when the light of day surrounds Me drawn up tight against the morning chill A recollected dream recalls the sounds Of your sweet smiling laughter singing still When I am left without your smile I face, by far, my greatest trial [III] True beauty lies not in the mortal form But is expressed in kindness and in grace Intangible, your temperament is warm Surpassing the construction of your face I see the beauty you have deep within Though not with tired eyes that know no rest But with a heart that ever seeks to win The comfort of your warm and loving breast Where gentleness and kindness are your guide Your beauty shines, as does the sun of May Exposing all that darkness seeks to hide And holding every lover to your sway With kindness you have captured me You hold me with your constancy [IV] Your intellect surpasses blinded faith Though many try to bring the curtain down Upon the truth which passes like a wraith Within their hallowed halls of high renown You see beyond the censer’s purple smoke Beyond the fabled tales of long ago Discernment is the fire that you stoke To hold a flaming brand with which to know What deafened men can only wish to see What fluttered past the hearing of the blind Your wit is beauty’s proof enough to me For loveliness is also of the mind Your beauty understands the art To solve the puzzle of my heart [V] Your beauty is reflected in your art In images of grace and flowing line Expressing all the passions of your heart A temple holding talent as a shrine To visions of your dreams and deep desire Erected in this jaded golden age That ignorance could never set afire Nor lies erase the icons from the page That waits for gentle strokes of your sweet pen My canvas craves your brush’s fine caress Which captivates the lonely hearts of men Whose love for you they surely must confess Your art evokes the mysteries Of longing possibilities Sing while you may -The Prophet Qa'sepel Your pain is for you alone, As it is, As it was, As it will be forever, Amen -The Prophet Qa'sepel [This message has been edited by Ian Llewellyn ap-Griffith (edited 10-01-2001).] |

I don't believe I had the pleasure of reading this the first time around Ian ... but I am sincerely pleased to have read it now. What a wonderfully romantic piece ... your phrasing and rhyme is superb. This is very beautifully written, much enjoyed! ![]() Best wishes, /Kit |
