Fool Without A Face

I'm tired of kissing the frog lips of dreams
to find that prince charming is not who he seems
and stars cannot be pulled from the sky
the 'someday, somehow' of a wishing well
always drowns dry,
and I'm tired of writing soulmate poetry
every time, it bleeds the very heart of me,
still, I need it,
I crave the fantasy,
you see, the hope won't let go of me...
a glutton for sorrow
aching for what I cannot embrace
...weak and used up...
a fool without a face

There is no twinkle in my eyes
no spark to light my smile
no self-love 'neath this disguise,
no safe-keep, no plan B...all the while
happiness stares right through me
as the rush of romance eludes me
and there is no beauty
in deluded reverie,
"my one constant, my other half,"
these are things that can never be

Yes, it's true
through scream of blue
I've nothing to live for,
shut out, left in the cold
from a lock on heaven's door
and, I dare not knock
for, the tick-tock of my clock
has run out of batteries
and hands to hold,
my scrapbook of memories
decays to mold

Still, I dream of what I cannot embrace
a crippled shell of strain...
a fool without a face,
and, this charade carries on
no one sees who I am
I'm their puppet, their pawn,
naked and vulnerable,
unable to hold on

Dear God, don't let it be
that into this world
I entered crying,
a soul without a name
no beginning, no end...
that I exit the same

OH MY, amazing poem, so touching, and so exactly as I feel. But you will have your day, it is coming, he is there. Never give up that he is there, somewhere.
And no one is a fool for wanting love.
I have to save this poem!!

missy,

do i have to come
over there and convince
you of how pretty you are!
this is just too sad,
you're not a fool,
don't ever give up!
your prince will come,
but, it's up to you
not to push him away
(you know!)
love ya girlie
see ya later

This is wonderful and, like many others I'm sure, I can totally relate.  I'm still waiting too.  So, if you meet Prince Charming...see if he has a brother.

Melissa....I am amazed that you could write this.. It reaches very deeply into the soul and that last stanza is one of the most thought-out pieces of writing I have seen. It's like you grew from a little kid to a woman before my eyes with this one poem. Needless to say, I am impressed..

The depth of this, the anguish seen
though hope is felt to lift from dream
a sincerity that right shall be found
to lift this fantasy to higher ground...

Well done, Melybee...

How beautiful, touching and eloquently expressed!

I'm sure many would relate to this.....

Thank you for such an outstanding piece.
Certainly it would go to my library.

I pray you find the peace that passes all understanding.
May your world turn into a lifetime of hope and joy, both in this life and the hereafter, for this is my prayer for you.

*sigh* this poem spoke to me in ways I try hard not to even see. All these feelings I have known and now I hide myself behind the mask of romance and do no longer have the hope I once did. A masterpiece of emotions. Thank you.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.
