--- Now You Know --- Leaning against the, frigid cutting wind, Fending off the stinging of the icy rain. Nipping at you like a swarm of of angry insects. You cover your face as best you can, Trying to look into the wind and down the road From wence shall come your respite. Slowly the cold consumes the feeling from your feet. As you lower your hand from your face to check the time The stinging swarm of raindrops resumes the attack. In the distance the headlights cut the shroud. Soon you will be wrapped in sweet, warmth, Safe from the slicing, numbing cold. As the tail lights vanish into the freezing rain You tell yourself the next car will be the one you await But it is not, nor the next or the next. Still you wait. Now you know my loneliness. No one ever listened themselves into trouble. [This message has been edited by The Lonely Stranger (edited 09-28-2001).] |

This piece is very well done! Many many lines I enjoyed, but this one... "The stinging swarm of raindrops resumes the attack."...stands out in my mind. Enjoyed! ~Nancy~

You have a way of painting scenes so vividly I can feel them....but not as well as you, I know. Strong writing, stranger... |

Loneliness is a like a disease. You can be surrounded by people and still feel lonely. You captured in this poem a part of our humanity that its with us forever. Loneliness can be our faithful companion in prayer, where its void can be filled by God. I been there and I know. Thanks for sharing. |

"As the tail lights vanish into the freezing rain You tell yourself the next car will be the one you await But it is not, nor the next or the next. Still you wait. Now you know my loneliness." Sometimes the wait can be an unbearable weight. Perhaps the very next lights will be searchlights...searching for your heart. |

Enchantress & Balladeer - I wanted to take something that we have all felt to show the reader how very distressing loneliness can be. For some, loneliness is a foreign concept. Walker - I can tell by your reply that you have been there and you have an understanding soul. Sinister - thank you for the kind reply ... I see by your post count that you are relatively new here. Let me take this time to say welcome and I promise you will never feel lonely here, too many nice people. Midnitesun - Thanks for the kind wishes, but I find sometimes if you resign yourself to your fate, it's not so bad ..... when you don't expect respite, the fact that it never comes has less of a sting No one ever listened themselves into trouble. |

What a wonderful and skilled way to convey the feeling. I was captivated by the images and shivered with empathy. Wonderful write, Stranger. |
