CHARADES I ain't no movie star, yeah, I ain't no James Dean. Vanity won't get you far, when you're caught up in between Real life and a fairytale, where one kiss might save the day; But reality's a dream gone stale - and life gets in the way. No, I ain't no falatist but Destiny persists There must be something more to this by the scars upon my wrists. But O' Death dances over me like a demon on parade, Still I could never please that part of me - so I'll just play my charade. For that face in the frame resembles mine, But it'll never be the same. You can peel the eyes of vague disguise But you can't peel away the shame. And just when I think I'm finally fittin' in, Maybe reaching past the sin; Upscaled lament, all hope is spent, The world's coming down again... I just can't take it! I ain't no rock singer, my song has long since died. It's hard to cling to dreams that sting when you can't even hold pride. The words, they fall hard from my heart to meet their soft white death; But ink spilled to oblivion won't hold my bated breath. And I ain't no prisoner, but I know well the part; I've felt the pains of a life in chains so deep within my heart. Still I won't search for the truth, too much stands to be lost; I've come to know what I don't know could ne'er be worth its cost. For that face in the frame resembles mine But I don't know that man. It seems to me that mimicry Writes itself where it can. And Time may ebb by Fate's own web Of undeciphered trust; But why pretend when in the end It all amounts to dust. I just can't fake it.... anymore. Michael Anderson [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 09-25-2001).] |

Michael..a good piece...but the despair in it is palpable..and gripped me hard this morning... I can offer only one thought to ponder... It is not the destination but the journey we are to enjoy... I hope you find ways to enjoy yours... |

Life can certainly be a game of charades, Michael. You always have a way of seeing beyond its tribulations and seeing with positive visions for the future... Keep the faith, my dear friend... Nice to see you again.. ![]() |

And just where have you been young man? This smacks of dispair and disdain and yet I know you're not at zero. Keep on keepin. |

Forgive thou self of sins of past, for man is just a man. Life's road takes so many turns, we cope the best we can. Be strong enough to laugh at pain, to say no to your sin. Say a little pray each day, let life again begin. Great write Michael, keep up the good work. Sinerely Rick |

You're a talented writer, Michael. It pains to see you suffering so. Know that you have value and that everyone at this forum cares about you. This roller coaster you describe, it's a dangerous one at times, sometimes we are able to weather the ups and downs, and others make us want to flee or give up completely. Now, I know you won't respond to this, but remember one thing through all of this, that kid in the pic. The one in your arms. Okay, lecture over. Ugh, I hate it when I do this... Wishing you peace. Its been a while since I've read anything by you. Geesh..Am I gonna have to start dragging them up from the archives? This is excellent, and I agree that it could be a song. Very heartwrenching to read. Wherever you are..whatever you're doing, I hope all is well. *Jenn* Sometimes the heart needs the solace of solitude and silence. |

I dont know what impresses me more here... you took your gift of cadence to a new level here...this has full melodics wrapped around its aching melancholy ... then there is the internal rhyme laced thru, and the vocab and classic poetic phrasing, the imagery and the mirrors ... the metaphors and analogies masterfully done, and last but never ever least is the emote that bleeds off the page and stains the readers hands and heart....... Oh...and one more thing.... Its a damn good thing you didnt put in the analogies that youre "not a poet" ... I'd of had to walk there on my lips to make you take it back ![]() Always good to read you M, even if every word stings.(yet another sign of an exceptional write.) take care jm Well tomorrow holds only mystery |

Michael - I felt every single word of this piece, and not one word could have been replaced with another. Your cadence, metaphors and the use of mirrors, and guises we wear was fantastic. This flowed so well from beginning to end, without a "speed bump" on its sad road. I absolutely loved it all but these lines stuck out at me: Still I won't search for the truth, too much stands to be lost; I've come to know what I don't know could ne'er be worth its cost. Just a fantastic, dark read, thoroughly enjoyed this and send my thanks. Drop in more often will you? ~Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self~ Cyril Connolly |
