Her first memory was of adorning the lobby of the Grand Hotel, overlooking the peaceful waters surrounding Mackinac Island. For years she gave rest to the young and old, her regal presence a vital part of the surroundings. She saw many lovers come and go, pleased when they would stop for a cuddle amidst her luxurious cushions. None did she remember as well, though, as Miss Elise McKenna, a traveling actress, and her beau, Richard, who had traveled all the way from another time to be with her. The sofa felt their incredible love, and was proud to be a part of it, even in her small way, as a haven of rest after their long walks. Soon they were gone, and the sofa was sad, as she never saw such love pass by again. Years passed, one upon another, until the new owner arrived, and felt she was too old to reside in his Grand Hotel. She was unceremoniously tossed in a junk pile with some rather unsavory looking characters, all awaiting their fate as next weeks kindling. She sadly longed for days when she was cared for and loved. Then a man passed by and took pity on her, bringing her to his antique shop. The sofa was relieved but rather confused as to how she had become an "antique". She remembered her days as a new and proud member of the Hotel, as though they were yesterday. And her cushions sagged a bit more. Nice setting, Sandra. I have to say Mackinac Island has always been one of my favorite places to go since I was a child. ![]() All writing comes |

Sandra, this is great! I love the way you developed the love story for and around this 'antique' You brought her back beautifully, saggy cushions and all. |

This is a lovely prequel. I love this old sofa. There's something about an antique....wondering who had it before, what lives it has seen. I want to take a sofa like this home, take its old lives, and make it part of my new life. Am I making any sense?? probably not, but I just got home from the pub, and I know what I'm talking about!! LOL If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please? |

As someone old enough to be an antique,I can relate to this. My cusions sag a bit, but I have not been thrown in the trash yet *S* Dan Death comes not when we cease to breathe, but when we cease to dream. |

I'm glad I didn't miss this, Sandra, as I'm not around here as often as before... I am really enjoying your storytelling. This concept is so ripe with potential -- and from a uniquely fresh perspective too! It's amazing how much of the scenery is naturally painted in by one's own imagination. I'm eager for more! -MVS "Learn to let go of fear, doubt, and disbelief..." --THE MATRIX |

You've really done a great job of giving this sofa a personality all her own. And though this prequel ends sadly, it's good to know she finds a special home at the end. |

Oh Sandra!!! I have goosebumps! You just reminded me of my favourite movie of all...'Somewhere In Time' and the great love between Richard and Elise! After the movie was made I just had to go to Mackinac Island and roam the halls of The Grand Hotel. The music from this is incredible and I have it playing on my web site. Oh...you did a magnificent job here, and the imagery is remarkable. Thank you for making my day! Now...I must go and listen to the music. ~warm hugs my friend, Nancy~ ~I've loved you forever, in lifetimes before.~ |
