The Stoker of Fires

by Michael

I beheld pain
and found it evil.
A stoker of the fires of hell
with maddening laughter.

A hand upon the brain,
ever tightening its grip,
clenching into fist,
trying to steal sanity.

A robber of life,
a crippler of intellect and spirit.
A hideous thing with foul mouth
that spouted hate.

I mutilated it
before it could take my peace,
before it could consume me.
I lopped off its head,
because I could no longer bear
the stench of its maggot breath
and taunting laughter.

Quite a change from the romantic poetry I've come to know you by. I'm hoping all is well. Glad you nipped that devil pain in the butt. I have my own methods, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. WARM HUGS to you today, and I'll keep you (painlessly) in my thoughts.
Thanks for the photo! I have a dimple too, but it's starting to merge with a wrinkle  !

Michael,

Very dark.. I'm not used to seeing you like this. I hope all is well. And I must agree.. what dimples!!!   I'm a sucker for dimples.. just ask Dave.

Auguste even though it's a dark poem I sense freedom at its end. Freedom from something holding you back. And no matter how we express it this sense of regained self control it's always good for us.Thanks for this one.

It is SO insidious, isn't it? Creeps up on you and robs you...like a persistant pick-pocket...

Hugs, dear one. I miss you.

This is pretty powerful stuff Michael. Well written, but seems to scream somehow. Sometimes we need to scream and let it all out.

I'd say you are extremely victorious in both the write and the fight...I admire you for
for many reasons in this. {Hugs}

Michael, this one need to be 'bumped' so anyone who missed it can see your dimples, and give you the big hugs you're always giving us.

This is a very passionate write...it is so easy to fall under the auspices of pain and suffering, and only the truly strong know when to fight the good fight...

very well done...
