Darken sky scattered, I am until I hear the first rain tap like painted nails typing the cement into pictures. One is a profile of a man in a hat, another a dry place, heart shaped. The skitty cat darts around, forgetting this dance of water that turns her fluff to forlorn is not a summer sprinkler. The forest green painted wooden chair is like a soldier at first light, steady and straight and facing north. The back yard is painted now, and its tongue of dirt is licking each gift that falls from the brown leaf supporting the summer’s bitter tomato. How could I have forgotten the smell of new rain or tell how it feathers across me reminding me of you? Let me be the scent of rain on freshly planted soil, the smile of pride that emerges on a face after all that toil. [This message has been edited by Martie (edited 10-30-2001).] |

Lovely poem. I relish the smell of rain on the wind or when it first starts to fall. You have painted a pretty picture here! Betty Lou Hebert |

I have met my soulmate!!! I thought I was the only one who looked at the dry spots on cement and made pictures of them! How refreshing to know I'm not alone....thanks, Martie! ![]() |
