Oh, Bull!
By Larry Chadwick

Mom said I could only play until five,
Be back on time and you’ll stay alive.
It seemed that I had just barely begun,
I waited too long like a boy having fun.

At seven I couldn’t read the clock well,
I knew I was late by the chimes of the bell
Following the road would make me late,
A short cut would work, if I did not wait.

So off through the fields I ran real fast,
When would I ever learn from the past?
Catching my breath, I froze at what I saw,
A bull, so big, he could have been the law.

Procrastination has its price they say,
I was old enough, I was willing to pay.
Puffing up my chest and moving ahead,
Was it mom or the bull that I did dread?

Just the fence separated that bull and I,
I stood there glaring him in the eyes.
Speed was my weapon, it was plain to see,
Without a clue what surprise was waiting for me.

I held on tight, I would just jump straight thru,
Instead, power surged through the fence and me too.
I fought and danced trying hard to pull away,
At that moment, I knew I would die today.

One last desperate effort to break free,
Strength, untold, welled up inside of me.
My hands finally flew into the air,
Maybe life really could be fair.

But no! I stumbled and backed away,
It wasn’t worth it just for time to play.
Flat on my back I lay in the mud,
This day really turned out as a dud.

Sin isn't fair, but God got even, grace isn't fair either.  larry c

Your unique style is refreshing.  And the humors a plus, too.

And that's no bull! LOL again.

Oh, LARRY, you really do have some Tails to unleash on us. This one is very, very good. Can't think of anything silly to add, except that in my similar case it was a goose. But then that's another story.

Duncan,
Thanks again Duncan, it sure is fun being here.

Midnitesun,
And why aren't you sharing these Tails? I too have the chased by the goose terror to tell. LOL

Cindi,
Thanks, the joy of a silly childhood, I guess.

And is this the new version of show me yours, I'll show you mine?
LOL.
So, once upon a time
there was this nasty nasty goose
who lived at gramma's house.
Grandma had a weird sense of humor,
so she set that goose on the loose
while I was in the backyard playing.
She locked the door and stood and watched
while goosey did his thing.
And whenhe was done
all that I was left wearing that day
was a new birthstone ring.

OK. There you have it. At least part of it, anyway.

Another cute memory Larry, and a good one by Kacy too, I might add. This reminded me of a shortcut my step brother and I took one time after swimming. There was a huge mud hole and we decided we'd walk around the edges for fun, where the mud was hard. But I went in too far and ended up getting stuck in the mud to my waist. Some big boys had to come rescue me and carry me home. My brother was the one who got in trouble cause he was older, but it had been my idea all along!!!

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

*giggling* Oh how I love these. And I can feel the pure joy that flowed through this boy as he took pride in how fast he could fly with the wind. Running and running to win his race against time. BRAVO!!!!

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

I enjoyed this very much... and yup... if it came to facing my mother's fury or a bull, I'd take my chances with the bovine. LOL. Great story!!!

Kit,
Then you had a fun childhood! Coming from a great weaver that's a lovely compliment.

Wynter,
~Grinning (real big)

ethome,
Thanks a bunch. Nice to meet you.

Tracey,
Traceys a stuck in the mud,
I think she likes that crud.
I'll bet her brother was mad,
He wasn't even the one being bad.

Startime,
You do know how to get into my head. Glad you liked this and understood it so well.

Regina,
Wow! Thanks for the generous words.

Laura,
It's stress free as a memory. But reality was horrifying! LOL Thanks.
