The Real Bogeyman In this sightless desert the dust is a constant storm, and night brings with it not stars nor semblance of moon, but nothingness, ushered in by lonely wails of soldiers stolen by battle. Even in death, both sides are present, caught in eddies of sand whipped up from hell, washed anew in the fresh stink of mortal blood. With a depraved heart, the Bogeyman swoops and jeers, willing their spirits to descend. In a slash of a smile, it slobbers over recent casualties, anticipating its adored delicacy, a Pavlovian call to drink the wine of hatred. © 2001 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 10-15-2001).] |

 (tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Corrine, this is such a heartbreaking but well-written expression of the violence in this war. (sad sigh) My heart cries out to all the innocent patriots and their families affected by war, and how it can bring such sorrow into the heart. Corinne, you have depicted the horrible side of war. Television does not show all of the truly horrific sights that war brings to eyes. With both sides experiencing such loss. Excellent Poem. |
