Mother, If I

Mother, if I could tell you.
If I could only say the words.
I would.

I would  tell you I love you,
that I thank you for all you have done.
That, even  though I didn’t often say it.
I would  thank you as your number one Son.

You were there each  moment
of the many times I did  need.
Each time that I struggled.
Each time a wound did bleed.

You have always loved  me.
You have always said you would.
You were forever  there for me
You comforted  me as much as you could.

I leave you now smiling
Knowing that your love I keep.
I say goodbye while seeing
you watch  me peacefully sleep.
