Summer’s Rhyme Virginia Salter breezes blow, breezes rise ‘neath the sun, improvise katydids, mantids fly seeking substance for supply grasshoppers and ladybugs flit around ‘bove slimy slugs gardens lie in summer’s wake growing up a bar-b-bake taters, maters, carrots, too teaming up to build a stew toiling toward a harvest time in this lovely summer clime corn and melons sing of sun peaches, cots, apples spun luscious treats gift our tongues summer winds fill our lungs sunshine’s glow fills the day flowers, trees swing and sway children, puppies prance the park crayfish, guppies on your mark it’s a race to autumn’s day when the Piper gets his pay and the world is all aglow ‘fore the rains turn into snow © August 11, 2000 |
