When Rivers Flow Upstream When the poet’s craft begins to quaver and words spring from rivers of resentment; when fears besiege creativity, the reservoir runs dry. He might still net moments of enlightenment, but they rush on, sediment to the sea’s floor. Most days, he treads, nights he succumbs to the weight, blue and heavy in the undertow. It’s got something to do with the twins: age and death in sharkskin suits; they stalk in tandem, having a man for dinner. © 2001 Corinne Bailey |

Corinne~ Quite a deep river of thought, my poet friend. 'Tis a ponderous write. *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Thank you all for commenting. Yes, a difficult subject, about an aging poet whose work is obsessed with age and death. He seems consumed by it, can't see any light left in his life, and he paints a very depressing portait of old age... I'm not sure I handled this one too well, trying to relate to someone else, ya know? Thanks again! Cor |

you did a good job with this one Corinne. . . and yes, it is hard to relate to someone this way, to paint that picture of them for others to see. . . but it seems that you've got a good grasp of your subject. . . you've read a lot of his work, that's obvious. . . and spoken to him on ocassion as well. . . to show someone to someone else through your eyes. . . through their words. . . this is what's being done. . . and you've done it well. . . -------------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |
