Of Those Who Believe

She spent great epochs of time
locked alone in a dark domain,
this tiny speck of no significance at all.
Mind turned in upon itself,
striking matches against ancient enemies.

Belief creates its own Gods, corrupt,
risen up from smoldering ashes of madness.
Unrecognized voices spoke without words
on the other side of a door,
they whined like fat children.

She awoke one day to find
the transgressed world had vanished,
sent spinning off its axis while Atlas
danced with Eris. It fell away, spiraled
in an arabesque of flames.

Belief sanctifies, whips tight little
stitches down the spine of reason.
She can hear the sanctus bell, the Old Ones
suckle at her ear, kisses like suction,
slick lips like leeches.

Seductively flawless logic spills from
rictus mouths set in sybaritic leers.
She waits for the pale eaters of horrible meat
to unsheath their viscious teeth,
striking matches to show them the way.

~This is some powerful stuff. Strength in it's presentation and worded in such a way that keeps me rereading. I enjoyed the language. *Peace.
