Pattern-Scattered

The happenings of the past week
have overwhelmed my senses,
leaving me of feelings, in despair.
Couldn't write, the numbness I felt
left wordless inside, nothing there.

I walked around town,
put a slight smile on face,
mumbled to each that I happened to grace.
Thoughts kept evading/invading minds space
till finally I had to escape from this place.

Many events of the annual kind
were planned, I intended  to go.
With a  push and a shove I took off in the van
decisions left scattered, in tow.

Here and there, I went to each place
trying to raise from my low.
Finally driving too far, sometimes lost
I'm terrible at directions, you know.

The Renaissance Faire, yes that one would do
recalling some friends from my past.
I knew they'd be there, could then reminisce
of the happier times, memories last.

Late, the last hour was all that I had
to search and to find, desperate need.
Lo and behold... there she was found
the memories, of youth, I could read

The surprise in her face, at least ten years gone
but both recognized at first glance.
My friend from my teens, who shared thoughts of then
to meet now, was fate not by chance.

That day helped my night, as I gained from the talk
and promised to see her again.
I patterned my thoughts, producing a gown
Renaissanced, I'll be...come when.

Uplifting she was, no matter the trials,
each having losses to bear.
But Linda, my friend, still pillowed in craft
left words that I wish now to share...

It's meant for the aging, yet beauty they hold
for all, some kind thoughts, when we see
in mirror, the changes as years absorb trials,
faced with tomorrows of we.

"The one thing that does age gracefully
if you let it is your mind ....which controls
your attitude on life. I rather like myself more and
more as I get older. Where as my body seems
to need constant maintenance to keep in running order....
my self worth just needs an occasional spark plug
here or there to act as a reminder that I'm OK. It's true ....
when you like yourself, most of the world follows suit....and
sure, upheaval and calamity still occur and your life
gets thrown up into the air. But when you come down
you are still there...and it's nice to have a friend
in your own skin ....be it wrinkled and saggy as it is!"
~~~
Some wonderful words from a childhood friend...
This is a great piece of writing for a trying time. I think we are all somehow questioning human kind and how we cope with knowing a human could do such a thing. This is great. Look inside ourselves. Prayers and peace.
Sincerely,
Regina
