Poetry Cannot Lie

by Michael

I often write by candlelight
with pen in wee of morn,
as crickets sing and birds find rest,
it’s when my poems are born.

They’re honest words, each one of them.
Poetry cannot lie.
With words I can weave many truths,
or breathe poetic sigh.

Each poem will give a tiny glimpse
into this man of art
and word by word you’ll come to know
what lives within my heart.

I am a man in dreadful pain.
Sometimes my mind’s unclear.
Undiagnosed, my body screams.
This is the second year.

And through this torment poems are born.
Sometimes they also scream,
but most will speak of loveliness,
or how to chase a dream.

So chase your dreams and don’t lose hope.
I plan to chase my own.
These two years taught me many things.
In good ways I have grown.

Reach out and take me by the hand.
I’ll guide you to that place
and when you reach it I will see
a smile upon your face.

Is pain a kind of purification for the soul? Some wonder. It doesn't sound fair. We all go through different kinds of undiagnosed pain, some worse than others. My mother has Fibromalgia and I feel her pain. Now I will pray for Jesus to alleviate your pain.

You've touched my heart with your honest poetry, keep chaseing those dreams. There is always hope.

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.
