In the Hold of Your Hand In the hold of my hand I look and find the words I want to say. My life trembles, understand? I’d rather be a child in mother’s arms than have to be a man. An island unto myself, wrapped in memories of despair. You walk, I crawl. You laugh, I weep. You do not seem to care. You cannot understand damaged goods. I am that. You with money, why do you starve the poor? I with so little still find food for their mouths. You with perfect health, why do you park in handicapped spaces, so that the crippled must wheel themselves through the rain? Why is it that those with so much become as misers, never sharing, always wanting more? Reach and touch the face of someone less fortunate than yourself and you’ll find that it feels like your own. Touch the chest of someone less fortunate and you’ll feel beating against your palm that life force, that heart that beats within your times. You will all, feed the poor, hold the sick, raise the downtrodden, respect the hurting and know that they are no different than yourself. Do you realize how fortunate you are? I have a feeling that if you were to open your own hand and have a look, it would be empty. There would be no words. In my opinion, that makes you empty as well. ~Nathaniel Shain~ |

nicely said... strong indictment, but there are many who have..and give freely...so the generalization while very useful as a device in poetry or literature, can be dangerous to believe without a taking into account what it is...a generalization. I enjoyed this... and applaud your voice on the subject..which is one not often written about or discussed.. your poem may help focus a bit more attention on a worthy subject... again... Good work |

Strong statements and powerfuly thought-provoking. Your last stanza, especially packs a punch. I wonder if this could pierce the hide of some of those of whom you speak... and then, could it start a ripple in them...? Good thoughts, Nathaniel. -MVS "When you tell the Truth, you never have to remember what you just said." |

I have had a wonderful point in my life where I was able to truly see more than I had ever realized how many people out there were more unfortunate than I. That time in my life touched me and my soul. I will never forget it. Those are the thoughts this poem brought up for me. I love this. Thank you. |

A man's intensity shows in his need to once again, be in the fold of his parents' hands... well done Sir... |
